Default How long did it take your DC to get comfortable in a pouch?

I just got a Lucky-Baby pouch (won on e-bay for $15.50) and recieved it in the mail today. I tried to put DD in it and she was less than thrilled. She just turned 1 yo, so I know we are a little behind the curve as far a baby wearing goes, but I really want her to like it (especially since I just bought another pouch - just because it was so pretty!).

How long did it take your non-NB to get settled in and feel comfortable being worn?

I'm new to this whole wearing thing, but am starting to get hooked! I think I want a Mei Tei next...

Thanks,
Mariah P.

Probably the best thing you can do to get your baby comfortable is to put her in the carrier and go for a walk. Depending on where you live, a walk outside is great, or go to a mall or something if it's cold out. The motion usually helps babies settle down and if there are distracting things to look at, even better!

Also, what position were you putting her in? If you were doing a cradle (lying down) or sitting up facing you she's not going to be thrilled, most likely. Best bets are buddha-style (sitting up with her back against your front, looking out) or a hip carry. Good demos of these positions at www.hotslings.com - HTH!

For a 1-yr old, I think you ought to try a hip carry. And start moving right away. (Aren't LBs beautiful? Yes, you need an MT, then a wrap...)

Thank you both for the suggestions and information.

I think I want to get the MT that has the front flaps that you can change out. Is that the Zippy? It looked really cool and I liked the fact that you can "personalize" it!

We have tried it a few times since, but I'm not sure if she has really liked it. She keeps reaching for DH when I get her put in it. Will keep trying though. Maybe #3 (whenever that happens!) will like it if I use it from the very begining!

Thanks again,
Mariah P.
