My 15 month old ds is the same way with table food. He gags on things like noodles, pasta, rice, fresh fruit, etc. I know it is just his preference, not a choking issue because he eats cookies and pretzels with no problems. In fact, my son actually makes a disgusted face when he touchs mushy table food! I tried for a while to do stage 3's and he ate them for a short time then decided he didn't want to. I have had success with the following just so he wouldn't be eating baby food any more:
oatmeal (with no fruit bits in it)
applesauce
yogurt (with no fruit on bottom)
french fries (homemade on occasion or when we are out)
toast with butter (eats it one day, not the next)
This probably was more of an "I can relate" than a help. I am interested to hear of any other ideas as well.
Good Luck!

I don't have any advice, but wanted to mention that I've read that if you miss out on the "window of opportunity" (approximatly 8 months old) then babies develop their own preferences, including just pureed food. The book said that it is best to introduce more textured food as well as food without salt, sugar, etc. at about 8 months old while they're not as picky.

I just wanted to let you know that my son is exactly the same and we are now taking him to a feeding specialist. Some info you should know,
the pediatric neurologist told us that if babies have trouble chewing
and swallowing, then they will most likely have trouble talking.
My son is now 14 months old and the doctor said it is a serious problem, so if your son doesn't make improvements soon, I'd contact your doctor.

I was curious as to what the pediatric neurologist has told you regarding your son. My son is 14 months old and will not eat table foods either. He will occasionally eat a cheerio, some goldfish, and yogurt but anything else, he just chews up and lets it slide right out of his mouth. I am so frustrated with no one listening to me about this problem. Any information would be so helpful to me!!!

Thanks,

Lesli
