Default Ferberizing- how many days

Hello-

I was wondering if anyone out there has Ferberized and how long it took for you to work. I am on day 5 with my 6 month old son and have had some mixed sucess. One day he was great, took long naps and went to bed with no crying at all but then the next day it went back to crying and short naps and crying at bedtime. I was hoping to see clear results by day three but I guess his book says a week. So I wanted to get some time lines from other people and what do I do if it has been a whole week and he is still crying when he goes to bed???

Thanks

Hi,
It took my son about 3 nights until he was sleeping all night. It was a very difficult period but it did get better. Sometimes, however, he still cried when I put him in his crib. And sometimes he gets up in the middle of the night and has a hard time falling back to sleep.

I think it may take some time, and your son is still young.
He may fuss at bedtime, but I would expect the fussing and crying to be shorter each night as he figures out the new routine.

Since I can't bear to hear Alek cry that much, I start with 2 minutes, then go to 5 minutes, then 10. He's never cried hard a full 10 minutes straight, lucky me!

Good luck!

Sorry to hear you are going through Ferber, but having done it myself, I know it feels CRUMMY! It took DD more than a week of heavy crying around that age. We still have issues if she gets off schedule, and need to re-cry every now and then...
My DD has always resisted sleeping when anything exciting is going on. (Meaning Daddy's footsteps coming down the hall, or cleaning up the dinner dishes.) We usually take a 10-15 minute break of house-hold quiet to let her settle herself, otherwise she wants to stay up and play.
I would recommend continuing with Ferber til it works...It may take another week.
Good luck, HTH!
