Rash/Hives

My 10 month old broke out with a welt like ras, possibly hives. He had them all over his body, but only when he awoke and they only lasted a few hours. This happened over about 6 days. Has anyone's baby had these symptoms? Does anyone know what this could be? His Ped. isn't sure or too concerned.
