Default How do you take handprint/footprint?

I'd like to take hand and footprints of my baby. What kind of materials would I need? I want both ink prints and those clay(??) ones that could be displayed in a keepsake. I'll appreciate if you give me ideas what to get and where.

Thanks.

For ink prints, JoAnn's and Michaels carry a washable ink pad that we used for footprints. I wouldn't try to do them straight into a baby book as you'll have lots of goofs.

They carry kits for handprints made of something similar to plaster of paris, or you can make your own using the plaster and a butter or cream cheese plastic dish (or whatever!). A friend of mine used the Crayola Modeling Clay that air dries--it was soft enough to get a good impression without hurting the baby's hand.

How old is your baby? It may be a few months before you can get a good handprint--they keep them balled up in little fists for a long time. :)

If you want detailed instructions, you could Google "how to make handprint"--I came up with TONS of directions. Good luck!

Anna's right! If you want to put ink handprints into a baby book or scrapbook, put them on cardstock or paper first, as you will find yourself doing more than one take! Then you can clue/tape the paper/cardstock into the album. Also, be aware, the ink, even if washable, usually doesn't come off right away. You just have to live with some stains for a day or two, but no biggie...in the grand scheme of things.

We also did a frame set with handprint and footprints that we bought at BRU. Here's a link...

And another version from Red Envelope...

We also have the Red Envelope

Edited to add: the links to for the last two don't seem to be working. Just go to www.redenvelope.com and look under gifts for baby or new parents and such and you'll find a few ideas.
Have fun!
