Default Smocked Bishop Dress patterns--where to find?

I searched through the books at JoAnn, and only Vogue had any smocked dresses, but no bishop dresses in the lot. I'm not sure where else to look, other than random google-search places.

Thanks!

I don't know if this site would have any but it seems like the most comprehensive pattern site that I have seen.

So, are Gracie and Finn going to match for Easter? ;)

ETA: Duh, here's the link http://sewingpatterns.com/
ETA: it looks like Vogue might have some

and some others:

Do a search for "heirloom sewing patterns" and that should get you more responses.

I have some links on my desktop, but my internet connection is down right now from my desktop, so I can't get to them right now.

The Childrens Corner patterns the PP mentioned are good, but they assume a fairly experienced level of sewing knowledge. Not sure where you are there.

ETA: Here's a good link that takes you to a site that lists most of the "major" heirloom sewing pattern makers.

I just occured to me that you are in Atlanta. There are TONS of heirloom sewing stores in the Atlanta area. I would find a local shop and ask them for pattern advice.

www.sewbaby.com has a bishop dress. I've ordered stuff from them in the past and been very happy.

Default The next time I ask something like this, will someone smack me?

So I venture across town to Pintucks and Pinafores and wow--am I in over my head! They're going to cut, sew and pleat the dress for me (no finishing, just setting the sleeves in place; I'll still have to do the sleeves, collar, sides, and hem) for the bargain price of $20. So once it's sent to me ($3 to ship versus 2+ hours and 1/5 tank of gas), I'll start smocking. I did get the material on sale for $4.50 a yard (a broadcloth blend for no ironing).

Oh, and I have to buy 2 books to teach me how to do this because the patterns don't come with instructions! If anyone else wants to jump in with me, you'll need A to Z of Smocking http://www.heirloomsewing.net/b-a-z_of_smocking.htm and A to Z of Sewing for Smockers http://www.heirloomsewing.net/b-a-z_of_sewing.htm , each only $28.

I really hope this dress is gorgeous! :P

Anna, I am dying to smock some john johns for DS...of course I have to buy a machine or take sewing class, so I am geting a little ahead of myself. Did you happen to see if P&P offers that service for boys clothes? that is a great price.

They do! They'll sew the whole freaking thing for you if you want, and you can only do the smocking (thus no machine purchase). They offer classes as well, but it's across the world for me. The people were really nice (except one OLD woman who was a little on the snarky side, but I just avoided her). Tell them you have no clue and they'll help you out!

Here's their website: http://www.pintucksandpinafores.com/
