while at target the other day, i saw these. i never fed lauren much jarred food, only a few fruits or veggies when she was just first learning and if i didn't have time to make it myself. plus i never used gerber...so maybe all their food is this horrible.
well i bought two, thinking it might be a good idea to have something handy in case of emergency (no food in the fridge, whatever). i opened one to try it, because i didn't want to be in a real emergency and need it without having tried it already. it was the macaroni and cheese with the applesauce and chicken. OMG. this stuff is like toxin. it's HORRIBLE. i tried it and immediately threw it in the trash. one, the macaroni had no taste. two, the applesauce/chicken (which admittedly i was afraid to try after the macaroni) was so horrible i don't even know what to write about it. that stuff is the foulest thing i've ever witnessed. in case of emergency, i think i'd rather feed a box of cheerios. gosh that stuff is horrid. Well honestly most macaroni has no taste and anytime you have pre-cooked pasta of any type it really doesn't taste nearly as good as stuff you make yourself (in my opinion). I don't find Gerber food to be horrible but then again I'm not expecting it to taste nearly as good as something I would make myself, just like I don't expect any microwave meal to taste as good. It's just a fact of life (at least in my opinion). Luke LOVES the spinach and cheese ravioli (they come in the little tubs) although personally I'm not too crazy about the smell sometimes but since I'm not about to go make my own ravioli for him and he likes it we use it.
To be honest if you want to have some things in case of emergency you can cook up some of your own pasta and cheese (while it's more time consuming to make it then take it from a box it really isn't that difficult) using small small pasta and freeze it in serving size containers. Cook a chicken breast and cut it into "tammy size" chunks and freeze them in chicken broth and keep some apple sauce around and you got your emergency food if you want to or just stick with the cheerios. Honestly in an emergency you're better off probably sticking with food you KNOW your child is going to eat :) |

I agree that it tastes terrible, but it's supposed to be bland for babies who are not yet eating spiced and flavored food. DS hated it too! He was already used to my cooking and didn't want anything to do with the bland lil entrees or gerber graduates meals. He does *love* the diced fruit and has some every morning. He also eats Dole fruit cups, but the price difference is nil. Could buy it in a can, but that's not as transportable! Also, Jake loves all the Gerber Graduates crackers and puffed rice snacks! He just hates the pastas and entrees.

DS eats quite a few of the Gerber graduates type items, though I don't think the mac & cheese with apples and chicken is one of the best! I buy them and bring them to Grandma's house because she gives him lunch two days a week and frankly I don't know what she would feed him if I didn't bring something very easily prepared (I love my MIL, but she was the first one to feed DS a hotdog and some strawberries, both before I had planned, and also fed him 2 month expired yogurt!) DS seems to like most of them and I like that the toddler meals (as opposed to some of the stage 3) have a veggie with them. So he gets somewhat of a balanced meal with them even if she doesn't end up giving him anything else.
