Hi All,
I am new here, newly pregnant and beginning my research for the best products. Even though I read the book and still not 100% convince which pump is better. I will go back to work after 12 weeks, and I will commute to work, train and 15 minute walk. Money is not an issue, which pump do you guys recommend, the Medela Pump in Style Advance or the Purely Yours? TIA |

My commute is like yours, on the train.
I chose the Purely Yours for several reasons, one reason is that it is much lighter than the PIS so it was easy to toss it in my backpack to take to work. And since I didn't need the tote that comes with it, I was able to buy it much cheaper. The PIS is only sold with a tote, which would have been a waste of money for me.

I also have the Purely Yours and have been using it for some time (15 months with my DS and 5 months so far with my DD). There is a comparison chart at breastpumps4less.com
Congratulations on your pregnancy and for choosing to breastfeed your baby! Mariah P. |

I also have PY. I chose it because of the weight issue as well as it being a seperate unit from the tote. I can pack it up in whatever bag I am carrying that day.
I actually bought the tote JIC and found that I disliked it immensly. I couldn't fit anything else in it! GL to you! Christy DD- Maddy 06/09/04 http://lilypie.com/baby1/050609/1/0/0/-5/.png http://www.gynosaur.com/assets/ribbo...n_gold_12m.gif |

I have a PIS, but my insurance company bought it, and I didn't have a choice. Its a perfectly good pump, and I have been pleased with it. However, if I had purchased my own, I would have bought the PY. Cheaper, lighter, comes with the battery pack, works very well. They really are equivalent products.

I also chose the PY because it is lighter, and also because it's less expensive. Now that I've got this whole pumping at work thing down, I find that I can leave my pump at work and use my Isis for the times when I need to pump at home. In fact, I'm liking my Isis more and more these days because I can get more milk out in less time. But if I used that everyday at work I would get carpal tunnel syndrome!
From what I've read, the PIS and PY are basically equivalent, except that the PIS is heavier, costs more, and the pump is attached to the bag (I think). The pump in the PY is separate so you can use whatever bag you want to transport it. Congrats on your pregnancy and good for you for doing your research early! |

I would definitly go with the Medela. I have that one and I love it. It was highly recommended to me by a friend of mine who is also a labor and delivery nurse and lactation specialist. She will only recommend Medela to her patients. She says that they are far superior to the other brands that are out there. Hope this helps you.
