Default Shipments #2 and #3 made it home!!

My DH just called and told me that shipments #2 and #3 made it home with no problems. There were 186 milk bags (if I counted correctly) and all were still frozen. I was worried because I ran out of room in my freezer to freeze the "BlueIce" (seriously! No room at all!!!), so I put them in the fridge (this was after the housekeeper threw out 8 "BlueIce" packs and all I had left were 4 for two 40 qt coolers)and cranked up the cold. It worked, so I am thrilled that everything made it okay. My DH said that Zsa Zsa still has 25-30 left from the first shipment, so I think she is okay for a while.

I am worried, however, because lately I have seen a drop in my production. I am only getting 24-26 oz a day. I am trying to make sure that I drink enough water and have been eating oatmeal (instant-don't know if that makes a difference), but wonder if I am getting too used to the pump and my body senses it.

Hopefully it will pick back up soon. Hope everyone has a great Labor Day and since I have not been on in a while, I hope everyone (and their families) were kept safe during Katrina. My family was able to evacuate before she hit and are all okay.

Take care,
Mariah P.

Yaay! Glad to hear that your shipments arrived safe and sound! I've read that only the old-fashioned kind of oatmeal (not instant) helps with supply, but I'm not sure why. Some moms here have successfully used Fenugreek (available in the vitamin/supplement section) or Reglan (available by prescription) to boost their supply, so maybe they can chime in with some advice.

Hang in there! We are thinking of you!

Hooray! Excellent work, Mariah. If you need more ideas about boosting your supply, check out http://drjaygordon.com/bf/galact.htm. There are lots of ideas there for things that will increase production, and they work best in combination.

I so admire what you're doing for your baby.

Yay Mariah! That's great news! I love the site that Rachel posted, so I thought I'd add my recommendation for it. :) I'm also glad your family was able to evacuate safely.

Wishing you the best with your supply! You're an awesome mommy!

Wow! What an amazing site it must have been - 186 milk bags! :) Hee hee. Sounds like you're doing great. I have no advice about increasing supply, but I hope PP's advice works for you.

I have a tip about oatmeal, though. I buy regular oatmeal (not instant, not quick cook, but just the "rolled oats") and soak them in water over night (you may be able to soak them in milk in the fridge instead) and then just cook in the morning - it takes only as long as it takes to heat it up and cook out any extra water/milk. You can probably do that in the microwave, too. It works great for us.

Big ((((HUGS)))) to you and your family.

Good job, mama! I'm still amazed at what you're able to do. I pumped 2x day at work for 9 months and that nearly did me in. You have my utmost (that word doesn't look right...), ah, You have my profound respect!
