Default Nutrigrain bars

DS is addicted to these. He'd eat 5 a day, if we let him. They seem fairly healthy, but is there something similar that is better for him?

Sean loves them too. He has one at breakfast every morning. I recall a thread here a while back where some folks talked about the Trader Joe's version being tastier and, I think, healthier. I wish we had T.J.'s in my town! There are rumors it may come here and I am keeping my fimgers and toes crossed that it will. I've read about so many great T.J.'s items on the BBB and I want access!!!

I was giving these to DD alot because they seemed so healthy. It then occurred to me to look at the ingredients. There's nothing horrible in them but they do have HF corn syrup which I'm not crazy about.

I found some more "natural" fruit bars in the organic aisle at our grocery store. They really are more tasty and don't include the artificial ingredients Nutrigrain does. Even I'll eat them and I won't eat the Nutri bars. They're a little bit more spendy but I don't mind.

I think they're one of those things that if that's the worst you're feeding your toddler, you're in good shape. :)

Actually, high fructose corn syrup is the first ingredient. I was really surprised--seems like it would be, I don't know, OATS or something?!? I was looking for some to tide us over until the next shipment of Trader Joe's bars arrives, and for some reason read the ingredient list. I put them back on the shelf. I found some others that are in the organic section that weren't crazy expensive and grabbed those. Earth's Best makes some cereal bars that are decent as well, but more pricey than TJ's.

I'm going to try to make some with the oatmeal cookie/bar recipes in the Lounge. :)

I used to always buy the house brand cereal bars at Wild Oats. They were tasty and only $0.25 each. I'll have to see if they still have them.

Yes TJ has great ones and they're under $2 for a box! and they're "yum...yum" according to dd. they have quite a few varieties but a little soft so i usually have to feed dd...for carseat or stroller i give dd the earth best granola ones. they're more firm, less mess...

I thought Nutrigrain bars have partially hydro oils in them...? that's why I didn't get them for Kael.

Have you tried the Odwalla bars? I've heard they are really good and are pretty good for you. Kael unfortunately won't eat any of the bars. Bummer - it would be so easy if he did!

Nutrigrain bars do have partially hydrogenated oils, which is also why I don't give them to DS. We get the Trader Joe's ones and occassionally the Earth's Best ones. DS loves them, but I don't give them to him that often because I do think they're too sweet. We usually save them for breakfast at home if we're short on time or a snack while we're out.

We love the Trader Joe's cereal bars here. We go in to panic if there aren't any in the house, because DS loves them!

There was a long period where Nutrigrain bars were the only food Nick would eat regularly. Drove me nuts!

Now we eat the Earth's Best cereal bars or the ones from Trader Joe's. The Earth Best's cost more and are smaller, but have more vitamins than the ones from TJ's, so we eat those on days we aren't eating well in other areas, lol.
