Default Weaning breastfed baby to formula help

Hi. I have a 4 mo old that finally takes EBM in a bottle, but seems to hate any attempts at formula. Any suggestions on the brands, types, methods that might work? My older daughter totally rejected all attempts at formula (granted I waited till 9 months to start) and I got stuck pumping / nursing till she took cow's milk.

So far I've tried mixing in Enfamil (canned liquid) 1 ounce into EMB, but she can tell the difference and rejects it. it got so bad she totally rejected the bottle and it took anotehr 2 weeks to get her to drink EBM in a bottle again.
The doctor gave me Nestle Good Start powder which I've used to mix cereal and she's not that excited about it either. I figure if she is starting someting new like cereal, may as well start w/ formula.

To my nose, the Good Start doesn't smell as nasty as the Enfamil, and looks more like EBM, so I am hoping she'll accept it eventually.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Default RE: Weaning breastfed baby to formula help

We didn't introduce formula until E was much older (around 8mo?), and didn't have stellar success the first couple of times. Like your dd, he rejected Enfamil when mixed with ebm. We had better luck with Similac (both the regular and DHA/ARA powder). We had samples of both Enfamil and Similac, and DH and I tasted them both...to me they were both disgusting, but similac much less so. :)

Make sure the formula is mixed *really* well before adding it to the ebm. Daycare once just added powder and water to a bottle of ebm, and E rejected it. And start off with really small amounts (I think we did 1oz formula in 5-6oz ebm initiallyl).

I've read in many places that it often takes something like 10 introductions before a child will like a food. So if your dd rejects the formula, try again in a few days.

Good luck!
