I'm always trying to find better recipes that are easy, healthy and cheap. :) Where do you find the majority of your recipes? In a book? Online? From friends?
I'd love any suggestions you have! TIA Jen |

i usually go to allrecipes.com. i especially like to see the ratings from other people. it shows how many stars a recipe received, along with how many people rated it. i give a lot more faith to a 4 star recipe rated by 200 people than a 5 star recipe rated by 10 people. i also like to read the reviews to see what changes people have made to the recipe. also, they just have tons and tons of recipes to choose from.
the other place i love is americastestkitchen.com (their cooking show is my favorite - it's on pbs). i love their philosophy of testing the recipes. they almost work backward when creating a recipe - they know how they want it to turn out and then try many different ingredients and techniques to achieve it. i just copied this from their website... "Our mission is simple: to develop the absolute best recipes for all of your favorite foods. To do this, we test each recipe 30, 40, sometimes as many as 70 times, until we arrive at the combination of ingredients, technique, temperature, cooking time, and equipment that yields the best, most-foolproof recipe." you may need to login to their website - try using "nobug@me." |

I have to say that it just doesn't feel like cooking without my trusty Joy of Cooking next to me. I have the 1997 edition and the most recent edition. I probably own about 40 cookbooks, but this is the one I use 90% of the time. I'll occasionally get recipes from epicurious.com, and when I had a subscription to Cooking Light, I often got things from there as well, but I got overwhelmed with magazines and cancelled it a couple of years ago.

Thanks guys! I'm going to try those websites. I recently tried a pesto recipe from all recipes and really liked it!
I have Joy of Cooking but for some reason I don't use it that often. I think I'm going to break it out and start trying some of those recipes! Thanks! Jen |

Online: recipezaar.com, I agree with the pp, that people rate the recipes and its nice to see feedback when you have no idea how it'll taste. Also allrecipes.com is another favorite. HTH.

I recently found http://www.myrecipes.com and immediately printed off 4 recipes that sounded sooo good!
ETA: this site has recipes from Cooking light, Southern Living, Sunset, Coastal Living, Cottage Living and Health mags. Not a bad combo! |

I subscribe to Cooking Light magazine and love it. I think you have to be a subscriber to access their website but they do put all or nearly all their recipes online and the message boards are very active.

I like to read taste of home but don't make a ton of stuff from there. I do really like Kraft's recipe magazine. You have to dig around a little on their website but it's free and mailed to you. Lots of kid and adult friendly stuff. Not always healthy though!

1. My dad. He has a recipe for anything and everything in his head.
2. My friends who cook stuff I like, I ask them how they did it if I don't know. 3. Online, but usually only if I can't reach Dad. :P Best thing is that learning to cook form my dad allows me to cook many things sans recipe at all. When I go online, I tend to google the dish I am looking for and then pick from what pops up rather to limit myself to what one site says. ****Rocking out while parenting my smart little munchkin Toby. Just trying to do good in the world, a little at a time. Words to live by: it is *never* the wrong time to do the right thing :) |

Online, allrecipes.com is by far my favorite. Easy to navigate, hard to sort sometimes. :)
Paper, I LOVE Everday Food by martha. Its the "simple" version of martha recipes in my opinion. Not a lot of random ingredients that you'll only use once, pictures with EVERY recipe (a must for me), and approximate time to prep and make it. I've subscribed for 3 years now and continue to find gems each month. |
