Default How do you freeze meats and other foods without using plastic??

We've been doing a pretty good job of eliminating chemicals and plastics from our home in regard to cleaning and food/drink containers. However I'm at a loss on how to freeze meats and other foods without using Saran Wrap or plastic freezer bags. My current MO is to freeze chicken and other meats until I need to use them by first wrapping them in Saran and then aluminum foil. Any ideas/advice on freezer storage without using plastics?

TIA-

Pyrex. We love it. It doesn't hold odors, it holds up better than plastic alternatives, you can thaw frozen stuff in the fridge and then put it directly in the oven. It stacks nicely. We have kept the majority of our containers to two different rectangular sizes (and then I have a few larger 9x13s). That way, you can stack them all nicely, and the rectangular containers don't waste space in the freezer/fridge like a round shape will do. The lids are plastic, but if you don't overfill, the lid won't contact the food.

Once in a great while, I'll use parchment paper (which usually has silicone on it, but solid silicone is supposedly pretty safe, at least as of right now), wrap things, and then put into a freezer bag. This works for things like muffins, etc. if I don't have a glass container to put them in.

Of course, most of the stuff we buy meat-wise comes in plastic to start, but you do what you can do.

Are the Foodsaver rolls made from safe plastic? We generally freeze in those because I don't have enough spare pyrex to freeze in it...

I have been wondering this myself.

Any links to safety research on plastic freezer bags (not plastic containers)? What type of plastic are they?

Plus anyone know what type of plastic freezer bags for breastmilk are made of?

There are a lot of Pyrex containers that come w/ lids. Some stuff comes without lids, but most of it has lids. We just try to not overfill when possible so the plastic isn't contacting the food.

Ikea has some glass containers with glass lids that have silicone seals. Ours work pretty well. Still end up using freezer bags for some things- don't have room in the freezer for huge stacks of glass.

Ziploc and Hefty brand bags are made from #4 safe plastic. Saran Wrap says that their plastic wrap is BPA free. And Gladware or Ziploc plastic containers are all #5 safe plastic.

I do alot of bulk cooking and feel comfortable freezing my food (once it's cooled) in Ziplock bags and Gladware containers. But sure glass would definetly be better. I do once a month cooking sometimes though, and no way I could afford or fit 30 containers into my freezer!
