Default Are there any hybrid station wagons out there?

It seems that station wagons aren't in vogue at the moment but I think one would be great for my needs. I like the Subarus but i wasn't sure if they were doing a hybrid now. Does anyone know of a hybrid station wagon?

Beth

No, and it KILLS me!! I would pay good money for a hybrid version of my Outback, or even a Prius that was a little bit more wagon-y than hatchback-y. I'd even love a diesel Outback. But alas.

LOL! Glad I am not alone! What is Subaru thinking not rolling out a hybrid??

Now that we have #2 we can't fold down 2/3 of the back seat if we need to transport something home in our Civic. It sure would be nice to have a little bit more cargo space but not be a giant car. A simple little station wagon would be so nice.

It makes me want to hold off on a new car b/c I just know that if we buy something now then next year there will be a hybrid wagon.

We're waiting too. We switched to a minivan to accommodate DS and 100-lb 11year old dog with joint issues. Waiting for hybrid minivan or station wagon. waiting, waiting, waiting

Still waiting here too...and praying that our old Corolla wagon lasts until there are some options. I know here in Canada that you can get a diesel Jetta and Passat wagon. But there aren't that many places to fuel up in the US so maybe that's not very useful info.

How about a diesel VW Passat wagon and using bio-diesel while waiting for a hybrid. They get really good gas mileage.

We are waiting for our honda to die to buy a diesel, we have a subaru wagon that is new and an accord with 150,000 miles on it that seems no where near death.

I would look into a diesel. We looked at the environmental impact of hybrids and diesel and opted for diesel. It burns cleaner than gasoline, you get 30+% better mileage than with gasoline and there are no horrible after effects of disposing of the hybrid batteries, etc. that will be a mess in a decade. You also don't have to pay a premium for "new" technology and diesel is well tested, reliable and long lasting. It isn't like the old days either. People who ride in my car or are near it don't know it is a diesel unless I tell them and they are always shocked. When we were considering hybrids, I know I found several articles online that led us to diesel. If the Honda CRV diesel that is in the UK was available here, it would be our second car! We have been totally amazed by our mileage and performance.

I had been hearing that diesel is the way to go. But, I'm about to sound like a major idiot...do I buy gas at the regular diesel pump at the gas station? What about bio fuels?

We are still a long way off from getting a new car, probably, so I haven't done any research yet. I know I'll opt for a Toyota, Honda or Subaru mosy likely though. Our car is a "99 so no side curtain air bags and that really bugs me with 2 little ones outboard. But, I bought a Honda so we could use it forever. I love having no car payment too. Every so often the unsafeness of my car gets to me and today is one of those days. Decisions, decisions!

Wow! 30% more?? I am no wiz at simple math, but you get 53+ miles a gallon? Holy Poop! My Prius only gets 44.3 (average as of today)!

Yep. I was thisclose to buying a diesel Jetta back when I was single because it got 50+ mpg. Ended up with the regular Jetta because the transmission died on my old car and I couldn't wait the 2+ months to order the diesel.
