Default Playdoh on airplanes?

A friend of mine mentioned something about playdoh being taken away at security in the airport. Has anyone heard about this?

We are going on a plane this week and I was planning on bringing some along.

TIA!

I just travelled with several playdoh containers in our carry-ons and had no problems. I think that security varies from airport to airport, though, so anything can happen.

I ALWAYS take the mini containers of Play Doh. Each kid carries two of them in their backpack. I've never had a problem. My last flight was about a month ago. I wouldn't take the large containers.

We travel very frequently, and have never had our play doh taken away (and we usually travel with at least 1/2 a dozen mini or med. sized containers)... I can't imagine not be able to travel without them... they, along with the portable DVD player, keep the kids the most occupied during the flight.

Your friend must have gotten a security person either on a power trip or having a bad day. There's no way play-doh should be taken away. It's definitely not a gel or liquid. The only reason I can think of is if they suspect it's actually an explosive, which even then they should be able to do the swab thingie to check it.

I actually wondered about this myself when I was traveling with some Play-Doh but I didn't have any problems at security.

I took some on our last flight without difficulty, but I always take something else to amuse my kiddo as well, just in case an individual screener has an issue. It's not worth it to me to get all enraged over a $2 tub of playdough!

We took it on our last flight and had no issue what so ever.

Default 3 oz or less

Though the prohibited items list doesn't specifically discuss playdough, it does cover gels and pastes and food items like peanut butter. Generally the rule of thumb is if you can pour it, spread it or squeeze it it falls in the prohibited category.
As a manager with TSA (I'm about to become really unpopular here) I would expect my staff to take away playdough if the container was over the 3 oz rule. You can bring a quart size plastic bag full of as many 3 oz containers that will fit (probably only 2 maybe 3)
Each traveller can have 1 ziplock bag but every item in there has to be labeled 3 oz or less.
