Default HELP -- call doc??

DS #2 is 10 months and teething. He has his top 2 teeth just starting to come in. Next to one of the top teeth just to the side he has a black spot about a .25 inch in diameter -- could MAYBE be a dark bruise. I never saw this with DS #1. Would you call the doc or is this typical?
thanks!

It doesn't sound like a big deal to me. If your insurance has a nurse line thing, you could call that for peace of mind. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it or call.

Yes I'd say it looks like a blood blister.
Thanks!

A friend's kid just had this. She picked him up from IL's house and took him to the dr. It went away on its own in a day or two. I forget exactly what the dentist called it, but it was normal while teething. Neither of her first two ever had anything like it.

A friend's 7 mo old has this, she read it was normal during teething. I might call a dentist if I was concerned, just to be safe.

This is totally normal. Blistering and bruising can both occur as new teeth are erupting. I am a dentist.

My son had it with one of his top teeth, too. It went away on its own, but I don't remember how long it took! I think it took a couple of weeks from the time I first noticed it.

Thanks all. I decided from what you all said it was normal and as it had not changed all day I didn't call the doc. He is getting at least 3 teeth in at once poor guy. Thanks for all the reassurance!

totally normal. Our friends one year old has 4 molars coming in at once and one of her upper gums was totally swollen and black and blue.... looked awful but we researched it and it is quite common!
