I'm still feeding Jacob with the tube ( SNS ) , because of low milk supply. On weekend's when we're out I nurse a few minutes then he has a bottle, I hope this isn't ruing the supply I have left but it's to hard to feed him the other way when we're out !
The last couple of day's after nursing / tube feeding he is hungry 2 hour's from when the feeding began, for a while it's been every 3 hour's . So I'm not sure this is a growth spurt or if I have less when I nurse, I know he was getting about 2 oz from me from nursing then 2 oz of formula , so hard, I wish I knew how much he was getting from me ! Also yesterday & today when I fed him again I gave a bottle, to long to start with the tube again, I'd be doing that all day BUT I know really I shouldn't have done that, just another way to ruin the supply, feeling sad & guilty, I feel my breast feeding day's are going to be ending soon. I am getting tired of the SNS feeding but I will do it as much as I can still. Also I was thinking about trying the Domperidone to increase the milk supply,I don't know if I should do it or not now. If DS wasn't wanting to eat again so early maybe I wouldn't be doubting myself again! Last edited by TraciG; 07-15-2008 at 11:08 AM. |

Can you get an LC visit lined up - or can you rent a scale from one to know how much he's getting from you each time he nurses? We did that with both DC. Kept the scale for several weeks. It was kinda pricey.
The SNS is difficult to live with, IMO. On top of that, it gets mixed reviews because of the nature of what it does. I'm proud of you for keeping up with all that! Low supply is hard to deal with. I know. Domperidone takes a couple days to be made at the compounding pharmacy, but I used it with both DC until they were about 6 mos. It is the one thing that kept my supply going enough. I still had to supplement with a small bottle, which stunk, but it was the best we could do. I didn't ever take the max dose, but I'm not sure that would have gotten me a full supply anyway. We kept track of things with www.trixietracker.com for a few months, and it was really helpful to everyone (us, g'parents, dr, LC, etc) to watch the nursing, supplementing, weight gain, diapers, etc. on an objective level. It may or may not be for you, but I just kept wondering "how much" and it made it very easy to keep track of. I also did a lot of oatmeal, teas, More Milk plus, etc. I think they all added something. Keep up the good work!!!

I dunno...for us, every 2 hours is pretty normal and was for most of the past 7 months. Is he sleeping longer stretches at night? Maybe he's eating more during the day to make up for missing night feedings? (I'm hoping that's it!)
