it is 6am and I am ready to strangle DD1. she was up at 11:30pm, went back to sleep at midnight. then woke up and came downstairs at 4:30am. tried to get her to go back to bed, to lie down and shut up, anything to get more sleep. nope. at 5:15 after talking, rolling around, hitting me, etc she declared she was all done sleeping and came out to play with playdoh. in desperation I then put the tv on. it's 6am and we're on our second blue's clues of the morning.
what do you do with a child who clearly needs more sleep but refuses to go back to bed?

Seriously, though, DD has books on CD, and if she wakes up too early or she's still up long after bedtime we tell her to go put on one of her books and lay in bed listening. Sometime later we'll check and she'll be sound asleep. DD's really into both the Junie B. Jones and Magic Tree House books - and if you ever eat at Wendy's they're handing out Magic Tree House audio books in their kids' meals currently. (Much better than cheapy plastic toys that break!)
