If I remember correctly, that thread was removed because of a personal attack. But I don't think the issue was actually discussed in much detail. Although maybe I'm not remembering the right thread.

I'm not sure if you wanted info on the librarian issue or something else in the thread. But here's the blurb from factcheck.org
Quote:
She did not demand that books be banned from the Wasilla library. Some of the books on a widely circulated list were not even in print at the time. The librarian has said Palin asked a "What if?" question, but the librarian continued in her job through most of Palin's first term.
The way I understand it, Palin attempted to fire the librarian (no indication that it had to do with banning books) before assuming office. Its pretty standard to do this to political appointees who openly support your opponent, as far as I'm aware. Due to public support, the librarian kept her job in the end.

I've been around/involved in small town politics all my life and have never seen anything like that happen at the local level. State/National elections sure, small town mayors, never.

Anyway, that thread went on pages, and covered a lot more than banned books! Sarah Palin really brings out the political emotions on this board (I find her fascinating in terms of how people react to her)...I don't think it was locked/removed but I could be wrong.

This might be a regional thing. I've definitely seen this at a local level.

Palin also appointed the police chief in Wasilla that continued the practice of billing women for their rape kits to save taxpayers the expense of exams. If she's going to play the game of political appointments, I hope she's willing to shoulder part of the blame for appointee failures like this one.

(and yes, I realize that other states/cities have done this, including my own state of NC until recently. I don't find it any more acceptable or excusable).

Here's a link about Palin and the librarian. She now says she was only asking the librarian a "rhetorical" question. What the intent of such a question really is happens to be something I think individuals will infer for themselves.

edited to fix typo

edited again to say that the original NYT piece on this topic does say that it was uncommon in Wasilla to fire everyone and start over w/ new appointees until Palin became Mayor.
