Apparantly, the home remedy of putting red wine in a shallow dish does NOT attract fruit flies and cause them to disappear by drowning.
HOWEVER, the bagel and cream chees that my mother left out on the counter (so I could "see" that my son ate 1/2 of the bagel) not only ATTRACTS them, it causes them to MULTIPLY. They are now EVERYWHERE. Yes, I guess I was raised in a barn and it seems that my mom thinks my kids should be also. |

You have to add a drop of liquid soap. It breaks the surface tension and when they land, they fall through.

Ah! I'll do that tonight. I tried the cider vinegar and it smelled horrible and didn't catch anything.
I think our newest offenders are the bananas and the pineapple from Sam's. ugh.

Very likely that they are the problem. Last time I was at sam's I was horrified to go into the produce section and see fruit flies all over the place. Yes I told someone about it but that doesn't mean anything was done about it. Blech!!! So not buying fruit or cereal from them again EVER!
ps. The cereal had flour moths. Yuck!

I once was at an A&P grocery store really early in the morning and saw the produce manager spraying Deepwoods OFF all over the fruit and veggies.
![]() Needless to say I never shopped there again, and luckily it went out of business, but holy smokes!!! Maybe fruit flies isn't so bad after all.

MamaMolly-A & P???? I haven't heard that name since I was a kid in the Chicago area! Cool flashback
![]() OP: at least you don't have an Avacado tree that for the past 3 months was literally *infested* with fruit flies. The avacado's would fall off the tree w/ live larvae in them. My Shepards would sometimes track the larvae in the house...eeewwwwwww! HATE that tree, hate it. It's over 100 yrs old and huge. It needs to go. Even my pest control guy said there is nothing I could to other than the million flytraps I had outside at the time ![]() Sorry 'bout your flies!

They are seriously an epidemic in my house. It makes me feel so dirty and unclean! BLECH! I'm sorry you are dealing with them, too, although I am somewhat relieved I am not alone!

When you find it lemme know. I swear, I was out early in the AM scanning the patio for any sort of bug or rotten fruit. Gross, gross, gross!
DH didn't seem to mind the little buggers, he MUST have been raised in a barn!
