Default Do you do a holiday letter? Do you like them? REDO!

I'm thinking of doing a holiday letter for the first time this year. Do you like them? Do you do them? What are your tips for writing a holiday letter? I want to keep ours relatively brief, but I like receiving some letters and have gotten some wonderful ones. I'm going to work on ours soon..... part of me thinks maybe I should just lazy out of it though!

I like the ones that are brief and not too cutesy...not the ones written from the point of view of the dog, the child, in newspaper format, etc.

I wasn't sure how to vote, so I didn't.

I like to read them as long as they are relatively brief, simple and not sugary.
I don't do them, but feel pretty ashamed. As someone who supposedly likes to write, I should really make it a priority. Maybe I'll just do a blog entry and send that out to everyone.
But I think you should do it.

Scrooge here ... I think that grandparents and close family friends enjoy them, but not everyone on your Christmas card list wants a paragraph about each member of the family. Zzzzzzzzzz. I understand it's more about sharing your joy and experiences, but as a reader, I usually just sorta skim them from anyone outside my close circle.

It's a double poll, you vote yes/no once on each question (click more than one answer, choosing 2 of the 4 boxes). Sorry for the confusion!

I was thinking of doing a holiday blog/email until I realized it would be even more work than a card/letter. Ordered cards yesterday in a record for me, 1/2 hour doing photos -- woo!

I'm not a fan. The holiday letters I've received usually contain information only a doting grandparent cares to read!

I am a picture person, so I prefer a photo collage with perhaps a few sentences of text. The pictures seem to capture more personality and show what the family has been doing, without having to carry on about it. We have only done a newsletter 1x w/ more pictures than text. If I am feeling ambitious enough, I may attempt another this year since I have some great pictures worth sharing. Word has some pretty decent templates IMO if you only use 1 page. I dislike letters that are too long (i.e. more than a page, small font), that are too braggy, or that discuss medical issues in any detail.

I don't do a holiday letter but I do write a note on each of our cards, and I usually include 1-2 big things about each child (new accomplishments, etc.) just as a brief update of what they are doing. With some of our family members this year I included a little note about how much longer he has in his doctoral program, etc. as a little update as well. I personally would feel awkward writing a full holiday letter about my family though.

I like receiving holiday letters, although I can only think of 1-2 that we receive.
