We have a RF MA in my dad's Cadillac SRX. We currently just have it tethered to the passenger seat track with the extra strap thing.
But because we have to push the seat up so far to do this my dad wants to somehow attach a bolt or D-Ring somewhere manually so that my mom is more comfortable in the front seat. Is this a good idea? He is handy but I'm sure he has no clue how his work would actually hold up in a crash. I mean the thing (bolt or whatever he plans) could just snap off possibly, right? It's not like he's going to glue the thing to some piece of plastic but even if it's securely fitted on metal, I'm not sure about this.

In short, no. It's never been tested that way, so you don't really know how it will react in a crash.
I had my seat pushed pretty far back, and the tether kind of bent under it. As far as I know, that's fine. The passenger just can't/shouldn't adjust their seat at all.
