Default Reassure me! Sick? or the bonked head?? panic over my DS.

schuyler fell off the back of an arm chair on sat night. he was sitting on the top of it while daddy was in the chair. yes, i told him he could not do this. then i turned my back and captain of the ADHD squad scurried right up. and then fell off. and landed on his back, whacking the back of his head.

he cried immediately and loudly.

and then, as he was staying up late to finish family movie night already, he went straight to bed.

i made DH wake him a little later to insure that he didn't have a concussion that would send him into a coma while sleeping.

sunday, he was VERY tired. but also played totally normally. but also complained of being very tired. but also played normally...

this morning, he complained, upon waking, of a tummy ache and said his mouth hurt. i thought maybe strep, as we were exposed last week.

later, no more complaining about this mouth or tummy.

friends came over. suddenly, he was very tired. then he would not eat his lunch. so i sent him to my room to watch TV. i went to check on him and he looked very, very sad. i asked him if he was having his bad thougts (he has OCD) and he shook his head no. i asked him if his tummy hurt. no. his mouth. no. he says he is just very tired. then he wants to come down and see his friend (who is playing with his brother.) but then he says he is "kinda dizzy." so i told him he needed to lie down.

he wanted to come lie down on the couch. i started a movie. he fell asleep. (with his brother and friend in the room.)

he seems very sad. he says he head does NOT hurt. (i have asked him a lot in a few days.) he does NOT appear to have a fever- my friend and i both think he does not feel warm. i am pretty good at recognizing a fever from touch.

he did throw up one time last week (well before the fall.) but then had a normal day.

i am freaking out that something happened to his head since he doesn't have a fever that would indicate strep or a virus.

i have a call into the doc and i am waiting for a call back for an appt.

There are a lot of weird viruses going around here, so I'd say he's sick. But, with the head bump, I'd probably take him in to be checked just in case. Hope your little guy gets to feeling better soon!

Yeah, ITA with Missy. Lots of weirdo viruses floating around, but I'd probably take him in to be checked just in case.

Hugs. Hope he's OK -- let us know!

My DD is being th same way. Sunday morning, she woke up like she had developed a cold overnight. She was kind of draggy but had some cheese and OJ (not a typical breakfast but I let her have it) and then she threw up about an hour later. She threw up a coupe more times but it was just the remainder of what was in her stomach. Then she rested the entire day and slept fine that night. Ate nothing that day...then Sunday, she at only a little but played ourside with friends all afternoon. then she came in and did not want to eat dinner. And today, she was not hungry either. Sometimes she says her throat hurts and then she says it does not hurt anymore. And she says her tummy aches. My BIL's family was just over today and my SIL said her girls had this "mopey" thing going on too a few days ago. So it sounds like it is going around. And no fever at all.

Hope your boys feel better soon. Please share if the doc thinks further action is needed.

It sounds like a viral thing to me, but that's good that you have a call into the dr. just to make sure. I hope he's feeling better very soon.

I think I responded to you being sick in the Bitching Post, but our whole fam has had a seriously nasty cold thing. The kids got it first (I think both had fevers but never took them officially). THey had a relatively mild version overall. DD has thrown up 2 different nights, 4-5 days apart, from the mucus/nasal drip. I have had it since around the 22nd or 23rd and still feel like crap. DH started w/ it a few days ago and he is really, really sick. In any case, DH and I don't think we had any fever. I wonder if he's getting a version of what you had or have?

Anyway, I don't think what we had was the flu, but it has been a doozy of a cold. My parents have had it too and suffered quite a bit.

eta: I hope he feels better soon. It might be worth getting checked out. THat said, there seems to be a lot of nasty stuff circulating. This thing we've had is definitely more than a typical cold, but without the aches/fever of the flu.

I just took DS in to the doc because of a little bit of coughing, 3 barfs, a lot of crying, a little bit of ear poking/tugging, and not much appetite. I wasn't SURE he needed to go in, but I felt better having him looked at, poked and prodded. She thinks it is something viral (since DD threw up too) and since he's got a few little spots. Even though it wasn't much, I won't worry as much now about an ear infection or bronchitis or whatever.

For a $15 copay and a little bit of time away from the house, it was worth it to me. I didn't have to take 2 DC, though. My guess is that they'll probably want to see him, just to double check his head.

ok, so he had a very mild fever at the peds. the quick strep was negative, but they will do the longer test to be sure. right now, he is being himself while daddy works on mac n' cheese (surprise, surprise, i didn't get around to making dinner plans...) so mostly, he is tired. we will get him in bed early tonight and see what happens tomorrow.

of course, i had plans with several friends tomorrow... would you go if he has no fever tomorrow???? it was only 100 today.

Well, I guess in this case a fever is a good thing (vs a concussion). Hmmm, if his fever d/n get higher and he d/n vomit, I'd probably go. It would depend. Any young babies in the group?

GL!

no offense, but I wouldn't want him to play with my kids tomorrow if he had a 100 today. Winter sucks in this way
