Default Mrs. Jones does it again!

We're hosting our annual New Year's Eve party/dinner. I sent out the evite stating,
Come join us in celebrating the New Year! Cocktails and kiddo-dinner at 6:30... Grown-up dinner at 9. We hope that you can join us!

Which makes it more than clear that kids are invited, yes?

Here is Mrs. Jones's email, sent out to the group of invitees at about 5:45 this evening:
oh and for those that are staying at our place. I have booked a babysitter so that we can leave the kids at home. I figure that we can head over to L and D's around 7pm to get the babies settled. ready for bed.

First of all, capitalization, anyone? Punctuation? (I know, I'm being petty. )
Secondly, THE KIDS ARE INVITED.

Do you really think that people are going to leave their children with someone they have never met? Does this babysitter have ANY idea that they may have not one, not two, but THREE toddlers to put to sleep/soothe/watch/navigate IN ADDITION TO a 3 month old?

Thank you, Mrs. Jones, for once again hijacking my party in some way, shape or form.

You're awesome.

At least I have my #&@%ing chip and dip dish to use tomorrow night.

Yeah, I know people who would jump at the chance to leave their kids with ANYONE. Of course, those are the people whose kids are out of control. So, hopefully the crazy kids will be left at Mrs. Jones house and the sweet, well-behaved kids will come to your house! yay!!

I was just thinking to myself that with all the holidays we would be in for a few Jones stories soon Can't wait to hear how your party goes - not that I want it to go badly - just that I hope you get a few good stories out of it!

That email sounds like business-as-usual - it's all about her. Maybe she got the sitter because she clued into her MISunderstanding about sitters last time? I thought you were supposed to share a sitter a while back and she didn't want to pay? Not that this makes any sense to a normal person, but maybe in Jones-world???

Just remember to keep the red wine away from Mr.Jones, doesn't he usually spill it? (and keep your eye on the chipndip dish in case it walks away from the party!).

Happy New Years Liz!

(GROAN).
I know. No red wine for Mr. Jones.
I have a very, VERY bad feeling about a Mr. Jones + red wine + late night Wii combo.

I know that this is jest, but I am a mom that does use a babysitter, even for kid-friendly events. My kids have always been the type that had to sleep in their own beds on their schedule. Bringing them to anything after 7pm was a recipe for misery and disaster. It is very nice of you to invite the gang for a kid-friendly NYE, but I would much rather my kids either sleep at home with a sitter or have a quiet time away from a party at a friend's house with her sitter.

And my kids are very sweet and well behaved.

I agree with Marina. DS2 has to go to bed no later than 6:30pm or all heck breaks loose. That's just the way it is. Boy loves his sleep. And if I'm already paying for a babysitter, you better believe it that I will take advantage of a very rare opportunity to enjoy a party without having to chase around a 3 tear old who is misbehaving simply because he's very tired and is in a strange place way past his bedtime.

I hear what some of the recent posters are saying about the kids staying home. But I think the OP intended for this to be a family party (an "we're all in this together" party), and with a group choosing to keep the kids out of it (and then perhaps behaving in a more adult fashion), they are changing the "feel" of the party.

Were the kids supposed to go to sleep at the party? I was wondering how you can have an adult dinner at 9 with kids there. I wish my kids would've done this but I cannot even imagine. Lucky you if you started this early on and now the kids are with the program. Smart cookie!
