I'm 36 weeks and itching to get baby's clothes, sheets, blankets, etc all put away and ready. Is it too soon to wash everything? How soon before your due date did you wash all your new stuff? Thanks!!!

I think you can wash it whenever you want. It's probably better to do it sooner as you never know when you'll actually give birth and you'll be too busy after that!

Just be careful on the clothes - if you have a very big baby, he/she may not fit into some of the clothes (or for a very small time period). So if you have a bunch of things with the tags still on, you may want to wash your favorites and not ALL that you have so you can return them for larger clothes later.

I only wash the things I'll need right away. I don't wash outfits. Just sleepers, onies, blankets and gowns. Since that is what my children lived in for the first two months. PP right on with things not fitting or not needed and you can return them.

I only washed the essentials, like the outfit DS wore home from the hospital and some gowns and blankets. We didn't know if we were having a boy or girls, so DH went home the night DS was born and washed the sheets and other outfits.

I'd wash them now, a week's worth or so (which will probably in reality last 3 days. LOL).
Don't be surprised if your baby is tinier than you think. I was "expecting" a big baby with Ds, as they warned me, so I returned all my newborn stuff that was for 8lbs or less. He was actually 7.5 lbs, and even the 8 lb outfit was big. Keep some of that tiny stuff, at least a few of them. You'd be surprised what will set off a hormonal new mommy. I sent Dh to the store to find some preemie outfits. LOL. Oh, and my 2nd, who was 8 lbs, still was swimming in the 8lb newobrn stuff. They're not as big as you'd think! So that's my long-winded way of agreeing with everyone else, wash some that are your favorites or you don't have gift receipts for, plus blankets. Wait on the rest. |
