We had to go out and purchase a new fridge as the repair man indicated it would be too expensive to fix our existing fridge. We've put fridge food into the freezer since it is no longer freezing however it had the temp of a normal fridge whereas our fridge was getting the temp reading of when mold starts. The repair man also said that the performance would start to decline. We do have a fridge in our carriage house so all frozen goods went out there but it is a major inconvenience to go out there for anything minor since you have to go out the backdoor into our yard then head across the icy/snowy driveway & go inside to the kitchen there to get something. Doesn't sound difficult but in reality it is a PIA. We went to Sears last week to pick out a new fridge. DH & I were deciding between two models (diff styles) and I suggested seeing which one is in stock to make the decision. DH poo pooed that idea so we hemmed & hawed and picked the one that is similar in style to our current fridge. Well the Salesperson said delivery would be 2/10 which would have been 5 or 6 days which already seemed to long to me. DH said oh that's not a big deal...ok ya it is. You just make food for yourself not the kids. I've only been letting dd have milk when we go to the local coffee place as I'm afraid the freezer milk is going to be bad. Today they call and it turns out that the delivery won't be until 2/20...yes 13 days away. I'm already going crazy not having full use of our fridge. We've been doing take out/prepared foods and items where we won't have left overs. They called us 2xs to inform us. The first person said she would put in a request to have the delivery moved up if possible and someone would call us in 24-48 hours on this request...I thought wouldn't it be delivered sooner if they could? In the second call the woman (she tried to get off the phone quick when she realized in her system that they had already called us) said it was a manufacturer's delay. She said she would call the store to see if they had a comparable model we could get instead and they would call us. Which of course they didn't. They have a 15% cancellation fee (listed on the receipt not explained to us) so if we decide to go another route we could be in a fight to get a few hundred $s back. I WANT A FRIDGE & I WANT IT SOON! How many people can wait that long for a fridge. Only those who are buying a new fridge for a new place or doing a remodel since people don't typically buy a fridge for fun.
UPDATE: Well DD & I went to Home Depot this morning and looked at fridges. I found one I liked (french door model which I was regretting that we hadn't chosen at Sears) & checked delivery time which was about 3 days. I came home & tried calling the local Sears Store. No answer at Appliances bounces into VM saying box is full. Kept trying to call. Decided after picking up DS that we would all head to the store. Find Appliance people all standing around chatting. Tell them I want to cancel the order and they say oh you need to call the delivery phone number on your receipt to do that but John over in Fridges could certainly help you with a different model. Ah no thanks! I came home & called the Sears delivery line. They agreed to cancel. I asked if I would be charged any re-stocking fee and the woman said well you "shouldn't" be since the product wasn't delivered. Tried to confirm that with no success..told to call the local store. Ha Ha. Went back to Home Depot to order our new fridge and realized that the one I loved was slightly taller than all the others I had looked at. Decided to come back & measure to make sure it will fit. It's pretty close. I've been surfing on line checking out what the manuf say regarding measurements. I plan on going back to HD tomorrow asking a few questions & then placing the order (may be a diff brand which is a wee bit shorter). Regardless we should still have our fridge by Thurs. Ah to have be back in the civilized world then! Hopefully I won't be posting in the future regarding this issue. Thanks for listening as always! Update #2 - Went to Home Depot today & rev'd measurements with the guy there and placed our fridge order. It will be here Thursday. Yipee!! Update #3 - Got our Fridge. Everything went smooth with deliver & set up. I was relieved as we live in an old house with narrow door openings between rooms and even though I measured I was still stressing. OH SO NICE TO HAVE A NEW FRIDGE!!! Last edited by jacksmomtobe; 02-15-2009 at 11:00 PM. Reason: UPDATE #3 |

I'd demand a full refund based on the delayed delivery - they are the ones who changed the terms, not you. They can't possibly consider it reasonable to make you wait an additional 10 days for something as essential as a refrigerator. Then go elsewhere and buy one.

This happened to us with Best Buy when we moved cross-country. Our new house had no fridge, salesperson said delivery would be 2-3 days, scheduled it, and then I get a call on the 2nd day telling me that it would be 3wks!!!! I couldn't be preg in a new house with no fridge for 3wks. CS on the phone was no help. We went back to the store, talked to the salesperson and CS and they were able to get it delivered next day. So, maybe head back to Sears and raise a stink?

I would go down there and politely explain the situation, and tell them you want it delivered sooner or a different model. Fight the 15%. If they won't do, escalate it until they do. They want your business.

This happened to us when we bought our fridge a few years ago. Sears actually brought us a different fridge to use until the one we purchased arrived. It didn't fit the space and had to live in the dining room for a week or so, but we had a fridge. They took that one back when ours arrived. I would definitely go talk to them in person.

Sears actually just botched our W/D delivery. We bought the W/D on Black Friday, yes back in Nov. Because it was such a good deal it was out of stock and backordered. They said they'd have more Feb 1 (which was a Sat) so we asked for delivery on that day. We got about 4 calls prior to delivery just to make sure that yes we still wanted it. Then the night before they told us to expect delivery between 8:30 and 10:30. We set our alarm for 8:20 just to be safe but when we woke up we had missed a cell phone call at 8:15. We immediately called the delivery guys cell phone back and he never answered all day. Around 9 we called the delivery hq and they said they paged the driver to call us. Around 10 we called deliver hq again and requested a 2nd page for the driver (all the while still calling the deliv guys cell phone). At noon the Deliv HQ said they couldn't find our address and we had to reschedule. I told them to cancel the delivery and take it to the store so we could pick it up with a UHaul since I didn't want to wait another week for W/D. Instead they cancelled the entire order. We called the store to try to arrange pick-up and they couldn't find the W/D and said they could order us a new one in 2 weeks. We told them we wanted a full refund and we'd take our money elsewhere. We went to Lowe's, paid an extra hundred dollars and had our W/D 2 days later.
Long story short, Sears will never see my money again and they didn't particularly seem to care about losing a customer. |

Yeah, I had a similar situation with my all my Sears appliances. This was six years ago when I first moved into my new home for the washer, dryer, and refrigerator. Everything was delayed and had to be re-scheduled. Then my washer broke last year so I placed another order for Sears. I ordered it online and clicked next day delivery. Woke up early next morning and didn't get a single call from Sears that day. Called Sears regarding my order and was told that I did not click next day delivery. Then checked my email and realized that they apologized to say they couldn't do next day delivery and the new scheduled delivery date is next month! So, I agree with other PP that I will NEVER order anything that require a delivery from SEARS again!
