I have been trying to make my laundry room more user friendly. It is also my broom closet. I have 2 questions.
1) Broom holder (I did a search and checked about 10 pages of posts and didn't find what I was looking for.) I have several brooms/mops/dustpans etc. I had been using a rubbermaid contraption. http://www.amazon.com/Rubbermaid-5A4.../dp/B0000DCBLQ It worked as a broom/mop holder, but on the downside it has a huge footprint and it collects a lot of dust. So I want to switch to wall mount (love the zero footprint aspect). I've checked a few places and some gadgets that come up are the grook hook (container store, not the best reviews on amazon) and evriholder (good reviews on amazon). Lowes has something basic too, but it looks flimsy. And I think I need 6-8 slots for just brooms/mops.Has anyone tried and loved their broom holder? (By the way, I love my Libman brooms!) Grook hook http://www.containerstore.com/browse...1&PRODID=69623 Evriholder http://www.evriholder.com/Magic-Holder.asp sliding version: http://www.evriholder.com/Store-n-Slide.asp (which I don't need, but looks cool) Lowes Read Organized broom holder http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...37-47359-50609 2) Message center/bulletin board question I had actually purchased a large pottery barn style piece but DH didn't like it and it is kind of big. Oprah's clutter show last week (rerun) showed a kids area that was transformed by Candice Olsen. She used carpet squares to make a bulletin board to showcase and frame their art (she used double sided tape to put up the squares). Here is a link. http://www.oprah.com/slideshow/oprah...s_messyhouse/5 I think this would be cute to display kids artwork (our fridge isn't magnetic), put up a calendar, and a marker board. Has anyone tried this, or think it is a silly idea?

I'm looking for a broom holder for my laundry closet too. I'd like one that can hold both brooms and dustpans. The one from Lowes looks good.

This isn't a very "fun" answer, but many years ago I bought a plain old hook thingy from the dollar store. It's just a row of hooks- nothing special. All of my brooms/mops/etc have loops that I can hang them from, so I use that. So basic, but it's been going strong for years, and nothing ever falls off of it.
ETA: I think the carpet squares look cute, but I wonder how you stick the art to them- tape?, pins? How well do they stay up with just double sided tape? I want to make something like this: http://www.pbteen.com/shop/room-deco...m?cm_type=gnav which is kind of similar.

Thanks for the responses!
RE: Broom holder, I don't want to have to add strings, and I don't want them swinging around, since other people access the brooms too. My kids would try to get them down if they weren't stuck up in there some way. I think I need a more fixed holder. PBTeen item: Wow, it is expensive and really looks like it will take a long time to install. But yes, it does look sharp. I think they said they use pins to put up the artwork on the carpet tile on Oprah. The

Yeah, it's insanely expensive (like much of PB's stuff), but I think I can get a similar look for well under $50. If I ever get around to it, I'll post a pic.

I just picked up a decent plain broom holder at TArget today for $10. It has 2 holders for brooms facing down and the rest "hook" style, which you can also put dust pans on. I hope it works, anything's better than leaning against the wall and falling down.

I had the magic hook thing in our last apartment. It was there when we moved in so I don't know how old it was but it worked great the five years we were there. I liked it. I think the carpet squares would be cool to try, how much could they cost and if they didn't work out you could always get a regular cork board. You could also look at Target, they have something kinds like the PB system by real simple. I can't find it online I but I'm pretty sure I've seen it in the store. For hanging the carpet squares try heavy duty velcro. They sell it at the hardware store. I've hung a few things with it and it they stay up very well.
