Default Which stroller should we take to NYC?

We're visiting my BIL over July 4th in NYC. My girls are 9 months and 3yrs. We typically do a bit of subway riding, we'll have our car with us too but we walk a good bit around the city.

We have a BJCED and a Ingelsina Urbe. Is the BJCED too big to use on the subways and such? I just remember having to carry the Urbe up and down subway steps the last time we were there with dd1. I thought maybe we should just take the Urbe and our Ergo and carry the baby while the 3yr old rides or the baby rides when the 3yr old walks. That could get ugly on an all day outing though, don't you think?

Or............I could maybe justify the purchase of a Volo and take the two small strollers instead of the big BJCED?

We did basically the same trip last summer. We took our Triumph, Ergo and Bjorn. We could both wear DC on the subway, and take turns putting a kid in the stroller. Having an extra "spot" was really handy. Although I'd love to push my BJCED down the streets of Manhattan, I'd only do it if everyone else were sleeping- too many obstacles.

Oh, I'm glad you piped up. Just as I thought, no BJCED. DD1 is a solid 36lbs so I know we won't be carrying her and dh rarely carries dd2. At the moment, I'm liking the Volo idea more and more. It's just hard to judge. DD1 could decide she wants to walk, but truth, I don't WANT her walking in the city. I want her safe and secure in a stroller. Hmmm...dh will kill me....that would give us 5 strollers. I never thought I'd be a collector. LOL

Least the Volo doesn't cost much. Yeah, I've only been to NYC once, but I really can't imagine using a BJCED. How in the world would you even get down to the subways with one or more kids? It'd be hard enough if you didn't have kids.

Can your DH wear her on his back in the Ergo when she isn't in the stroller? The Triumph was our sleeping place.

You mean wear the 9 month old not the 3yr old, right? Yes, I can wear her or I can coax dh to wear her. But, I'm just concerned that dd1 will want to ride, or I will want her to ride, frequently. I'm also concerned about how HOT it is likely to be. If we're about all day it would be just too much to carry dd2 that long. I'm leaning toward the Volo more and more.

We just went back to visit my family in the NYC area last month and we went the 2 stroller route. DS is 4.5 and DD is 16 months. I did bring my Beco and carried DD a couple of times, but when we spent the entire day out and about we had both strollers and that really worked out best. We brought our Techno for DS for the weight limit and then used my mom's cheap Safety First stroller for DD. We could have gotten away with our Volo for DS, but I brought the Techno because I used it as a makeshift travel system to get DD through the airport in her KeyFit, which we used on the plane. DH was meeting me there on a different flight so I was traveling alone.

I think the only double I would have considered using in NYC is the BJ City Mini Double. I keep coveting one, but I just got a P&T.

We did the big 2+yr old on DH's back and the lighter 8 mo. old in the bjorn active on me. We took turns putting them in the stroller when we needed to. We thought it was great to be able to wear everyone a few times and use the stroller carrystrap when it was really crowded - like on the subway or in a traffic jam.

eta: it was mid-july

We did NYC a couple years ago with a Volo and Quest. My girls were 2 and 5 at the time, I think. It was the perfect combo for lots of walking and then riding the subways and ferries.
