Default Another name this doll thread

I bought another baby at Goodwill. I picked her up because she looked so much like Calin. Then I debated for about 10 minutes about her origins. She does not say Corolle anywhere. The back of her head says CHINA. She has open shut eyes and seems completely soft (no beans). She is slightly lighter than Calin (then again DDs' could possibly be Tidoos, we debated it on another thread a few months ago.) She does, however, have a distinct vanilla scent.
What do you experts think? I guess the only reason I need to know is that if I want her to be any good to me I will have to find a second one to accompany her.
(The last picture is our "Calin" doll on the left with the new mystery doll on the right)

I having trouble telling the difference between, though I suppose the girls will. It looks like a nice doll.

Sorry I could not be of more help.

I agree she seems very similar. I am thrown off by the fact she has no "Corolle" on her at all, even on the tag on her body. And our other babies say "Corolle" on the back of the neck. Do all of them have the brand printed there, anyone know?

I guess my next step is to toss her in the water and see if she floats. But Tidoos all have bean-filled bodies right?

My Target knock-off does not have the brand on the back of the neck.

Melaine, I'm guessing it's a knock-off, but a really good one.... and if you couldn't tell the difference, could a toddler? (ETA: my daughter is 17 months and just starting to 'get' dolls, maybe older toddlers ARE that aware, I just haven't learned yet!)

Do the knock-offs smell like vanilla too? That would solve the mystery. I guess I've never seen those at Target.

melanie-- fwiw i don't think that is a corolle, but she does seem really similar-- it's the smile/eyes that seem different to me -- the body is really close. is the vanilla smell the same? i'm sure it's hard to tell once it's toned down, but i find that some different dolls do have a smell, it's just not as...um....pleasant? as the corolle smell. lu has a cabbage patch baby and i hate the smell then again, i wouldn't call that "vanilla"

i'm curious if your girls would know the difference between that baby and a corolle baby? lucy loves her calin, and i assumed it was a combo of the soft expression, smell & bean body, but i could be wrong. maybe it's just the size?

My knock-off does not have eyes that open and close - sorry, wasn't clear - I think it is a different variety of knock-off.

My girls would definitely know the difference (if nothing else the body on the C baby has "corolle" written all over it). They compare everything and their identical items become interchangeable. (their loveys are the same and get switched up constantly). The weight of the doll is different from lack of beans. But it's ok, this is actually a 3rd baby so I just bought it for the sake of buying it for $1.50. I will be washing her so if she doesn't hold up I guess I will be good and sure she is NOT corolle....LOL. That's one of the reasons I hesitate to buy dolls used anyway, they've got to be washed, ykwim?
The scent is not like cabbage patch (ITA, not a pleasant smell to me) and it does smell like Corolle to me, but it is definitely faint (as are the other two).
Looking at her, I do not think the face is quite as nice as Corolle. For instance, the teeth are not quite as neat (the white is on her gums a tiny bit).
Bottom line, I think it's a very good knock-off. I would really like to know exactly which one it is and if it is washable then I would not mine having more around. (Since I apparently only by Corolle dolls at Goodwill anyway).
