I am planning to EBF. What pacifier(s) have you found work best for EBF infants?
Thanks!

We use the avent ones..only ones he'll take! I think its trial and error though. Maybe register for a couple different ones?

I own 6, three different kinds, and He will have none of them. (Nuk, hospital (gumdrop), and anothe one that I'm not sure what brand it is. Never tried AVENT, basically gave up. Wasn't really interested in using them anyway, but tried 'em.

Neither of my EBFd babies would have anything to do with ANY of the paci's I offered. I tried every type/model I could find, to no avail. Some babies just don't like them.

The only one that my EBF baby will take is the gumdrop one from the hospital. I tried AVENT, he hates it. I got some Gerber ones that "mimic" the breast, but it's very rare that he'll hold on to those. He loves the gumdrops.

I waited the 4 weeks suggested before I offered my dd any fake nipples. She is EBF and has a hard time holding on to pacifiers that have long/orthodontic nipples. The avent and soothie (gumdrop) pacifier make her gag, and the playtex binky brand is the winner so far when she feels like it. I'm still looking for THE pacifier, one with a short nipple that is a little bit more flexible maybe. Something more "booby" like.

DD is EBF and we love NUK's over here. I tried the gumdrop and the mam. The NUK just stayed in her mouth the best. FIL insists that its the least harmful in terms of speech development because baby's lips are closed rather than open when sucking a NUK. Don't really know if thats true though.
Btw, has anyone here really experienced a baby having nipple confusion due to the pacifier? The lactation consultants in the hospital had me convinced that DD had nipple confusion and thats why she wasnt nursing well. I took away the paci for a few days, until my pediatrician told me that theres no such thing as nipple confusion...I know thats controversial, but I think he may be right. DD loved her NUK. Would not do the Playtex "Binkie".
At 6 months we went to the Playtex Ortho Pro.

Joshua, my non-breastfed son wouldn't have anything to do with pacifiers. Both Hannah and now Andrew, who who were/are EBF love their Gerber NUK pacifiers. I tried all the other brands mentioned, but that's the only one they would take.
FWIW A really great lactation consultant that I have used said she always recommends the NUK because it causes the least amount of nipple confusion and is the most orthodontically correct.

My DS is EBF and the only pacifier he would take is the Nuby Natural Touch Softflex Orthodontic style pacifier. (Say that three times fast... LOL)
