Default Has anyone in your family gotten H1N1 yet?

I think DD had it last week based on her symptoms, and I am curious what others' experience has been. Hers was pretty mild compared to what I expected - fever hovering around 103, achy body, headache, loss of appetite, stomachache, sore throat, but not frequent stool. 3 days later, her fever broke and she was perfectly healthy again. The thing that has me wondering is that she didn't have a cough or congestion/runny nose - but the local articles about h1n1 here match her symptoms pretty exactly. I was shocked though that DS didn't get sick - he stole drinks from her water straw cup every day. I did wonder if he had h1n1 a couple months ago when he had a fever for 3 days (he is too small to tell us about the other symptoms), maybe he did and that's why? Honestly, I hope they both did have it, just so we have the immunity now.

So, what has your family's experience been, if you've had it?

We all got sick, but DS1 (who was the first to show any symptoms) was the only one who got tested. He tested positive, but by the time we found out it was already two weeks later and all of us were back to work/school.

DS1 had a raging fever (104), body aches, and chills for 2-3 days and so did I. DS2only had a 101-102 fever and didn't seem too sick, so I worry he didn't really have it and thus might not have immunity. DH didn't feel as rotten as we did, but he ended up with walking pneumonia out of it.

None of us really had the cough, sore throat, etc, and we all recovered quicker than we do from regular colds (except DH).

A couple weeks ago we all thought DS1 had it. He had all the symptoms but when the hospital tested him for Influenza A/B he was negative.

We haven't had it, but we have a couple of friends who had confirmed cases in the spring. Both were adults (different families) and had mild (but apparently typical) cases...fever, cough, sore throat and aches for 2-3 days. No one else in their families got it and they each missed 3 days of work, more because they were told to stay home than because they actually felt that bad for 3 days.

I had something this summer, but really don't know what it was. I didn't go to the Dr. for it. (So I didn't answer your poll)

There are two "probable" cases at DH's school. The first kid went to the ER and was told it was a strain of H1N1, but it's not "confirmed." He just had sore throat/congestion/slight fever, but he's out of school on doctor's orders 'til Monday.

The only really scary thing I've heard was the 21-year-old mom in Columbus who died of H1N1 concurrent with the birth of her healthy child.

Is it possible that's what my kids had recently? High fever (102-ish) that would only go down to 100 or so with Motrin, very sore throat, no appetite and a couple of bouts of vomiting, but then they were pretty much fine 36-48 hours later. I assumed that since neither really had much congestion and it didn't last long it was some other random virus...but if it was H1N1 I'd be pretty happy that it was that mild (not that it was fun for any of us) and they were done with it!

Last spring, DS had a really high fever for a couple of days (103/104), had a mild sore throat and body aches. If he had any respiratory symptoms they were mild. After the first couple of days his fever dropped to around 100/101 and that stuck around for a couple more days. I didn't take him in to the doctor. A couple of days later, his best buddy at school had almost identical symptoms and he tested positive for H1N1. I'm pretty sure that's what DS had, but my peditrician said the CDC had told them not to test, so they didn't. DD had a low grade fever a day or so after DS, but none of the rest of us really got sick. I wish I knew for certain if he'd had it. It'd be nice to be albe to check H1N1 off the "to do" list!

DS had it the worst and was the first to get it--got Tamiflu and was out for a week. DD had some fever and coughing but was fine on Tylenol etc--but she also had the GI stuff with it and that was hard. DH had what DD had only much worse on the GI. Some how, I did not get it. (thank you!!) I am glad we got it this summer and will have immunities when it comes around again in the winter.

We believe that myself and both girls had it in late July. Interestingly, two of my coworkers told me yesterday that their teenagers got it over the summer too. They are only testing people who are admitted to hospital ICUs here. However, we met all of the symptom criteria with the exception of the intestinal/stomach issues. Sore throat, cough, aches, high-ish fever, etc. Basically, we had an influenza-like-illness (WHO criteria), which was on the mild-er side. I had it the worst. DD#1 had it the mildest, which is interesting b/c she has asthma. But, she's on a preventative, so hopefully that helped.

My sister just recovered from H1N1. She didn't have a cough or sore throat. But it took a while for her to recover. It's pretty aggressive. It was very nerve racking b/c she lives overseas and only had friends to rely on. I think the most distinctive thing she described was the very high fever.
