Default Poetry anthology for (older) children?

Sarah is really into poetry these days. She's been devouring Silverstein and Prelutsky. I'd like to find an anthology that would introduce her to a wider range of poetry by more poets.

Any ideas?

Not an anthology, but another poet to check out is Calef Brown. I heard him interviewed on NPR a year or so ago and then picked up Flamingos on the Roof. DS loves it. It reminds me of Silverstein.

We have this one; DD is a little young for it, but I like it. Great illustrations too.

I have read a little Robert Service to Dd1 at times and she seems to enjoy it.

I would talk to the children's librarian at your city library. Or even at the school. Librarians should know about these things, or how to find them.

Well, I'd love to talk to the librarians, but right now with my schedule, it seldom happens.

I'd also like to add something to our home "library", something that can grow with her.

not sure if you are still looking or if this would be your family's cup of tea, but DH just asked me to add this to DD1's christmas list:

http://www.amazon.com/Tree-That-Time...9034190&sr=8-1

it's an anthology put together by Mary Ann Hoberman, the current Children's Poet Laureate.

Here's a blurb from Amazon:

The Tree That Time Built is a moving anthology of more than 100 poems celebrating the wonders of the natural world and encouraging environmental awareness. With a focus on the outdoors, this collection taps into today's environmental movement and also presents wonders of nature and science, most especially Darwin's theory of evolution, from which this collection gains its name.

HTH!

This is a favorite in our house. The CD that comes with it is GREAT! I love hearing the poets (for the most part) read their own work.

I also checked this one out of the library earlier this year and liked it:
Family of Poems: My Favorite Poetry for Children, Caroline Kennedy

Thanks! The Poetry Speaks books is exactly what I was looking for and I love that it comes with a CD of the poets reading their own poetry.
