DD turns 1 next Friday. Now, I am ecstatic to be done pumping in the next couple weeks. But I had hoped to keep nursing morning and night through the Spring. I have had to fight to keep my production up all along, and now this week, it’s really shutting down (nasty cramps too, so I think the hormones are starting back).
Additionally, DD has over the past week turned into a little wild animal when she nurses. I think she’s trying to make nursing an Olympic sport. Or get her cardio in. But it’s a lot of work to get this kid fed anymore. It doesn’t really seem right that just as I get good at nursing, it’s about time to stop. And it makes me a little sad to be done. She’s to be an only, so no more babies to nurse. I’ll see how it goes over the next few weeks and see if I can keep nursing her for a few more months. And I know that I have fulfilled my duties and raised a wonderfully healthy girl. But wow. Done? Where did the time go?

Good job!
It's a weird feeling to be done. DS2 is our last and he's 19 months and nurses at night. I'm trying to wean, but it's an odd thought that this is the end.

My original goal was 6m but once i got there there was no way I was stopping. Like you said, it had gotten easy finally! So, I aimed for 12m. When I got there I thought, "why 12m? that seems so arbitrary!" So, we went till he was ready at 19m. It was great. I can certainly imagine that if I were pumping I'd drop the pump during the day then and just do the sessions when I was home. I think that's a great compromise. With ds2 I kept nursing through the winter and into the spring so he could get antibodies.
Congrats on making it so far!! ![]() Beth

Awwww. I stopped at a year and I was surprised how much I missed it when it was gone. But you have to stop sometime and it sounds like your nursing relationship has run its natural course (not discouraging you from keeping it up, just don't feel bad if it is time). Be sure to take a few pictures - discreet is fine of course. It's a very special time.

Yeah, I kinda of lost it the other night- "she doesn’t need her mama anymore!".
Poor DH had his hands full with me, explaining how much she will always need me, and pointing out how much I still need my own mama now! Patient man! I'll keep trying, hoping to keep the morning and night nurse- we'll just see how things progress.

this may sound strange to some but i kept on nursing a couple of times a day even after my supply was almost completely gone. it was such a great bonding time that neither of us was ready to let go of. i agree with pp do take some private pics for yourself to reflect on it will help greatly!

I thought I was done nursing over 3 yrs. ago.
It was kind of sad, but I was nursing and/or pregnant for over 7 yrs. (with only 2 kids), so I was ready for a break. Now I'm ready for another round.Don't worry, they still need Mommy. My girls still like me to help them get to sleep. If you really want to keep nursing longer, you probably can--it becomes more of a comfort thing than a nutritional thing. I obviously nursed both of mine well into toddlerhood, but that's definitely not for everyone. (I'm not sure if I'm up for it this time around, but we'll see how it goes.) Good job nursing her for as long as you have! |

But, DD is now snuggling more after her bottle is done & I sing silly little lullabies to her... she pats my arm/face if she's not sleepy & I stop singing. ![]() Kudos to you for nursing so long... she'll always need you
