And since I try to keep "pushing" it on to him, he got and and just dropped it in my lap as if to say "here's your Sophie"

Neihter of my kids got into Sophie. But my dog did. He ate DDs one. MIL got DS another one and he didn't like it either. But my dog sniffs it up from time to time.

I think Sophie is cute, but DD is not a big fan of it either. She liked it a lot at first (around when she was 6 month old), but then slowly got over it. I've put it away for the last couple of months, maybe it would be a good time to take Sophie out again, especially since DD has started teething again.

DD didn't have a Sophie but even at the worst of her teething she wouldn't put a single thing in her mouth except her fingers or her hand. My brother or sister had a Sophie way back in the 80s as I remember it being in the toy box and it was still in pretty good shape so I don't think that they chewed on it much either, just played with as they got older and it went with the Fisher Price Little People farm set.

DD didn't love Sophie as a baby (and none of my kids has ever used a true teether EVER), but she gets LOTS of play in the bath now that they are older. She is a bath toy and is much loved (though it kills me how expensive she was for a simple bath toy!).

It might not be too late. Sophie is more popular now (at 15 mos) than she was when DD was smaller. She still isn't much of a teether, but DD enjoys squeaking her and throwing her

We never had a sophie, but honestly, all DD wanted to chew on was the edges of wooden coffee tables. We always know when a tooth is coming because we're constantly trying to stop her from chewing on the furniture!
