I've been giving Cheerios to Laurel since about 8 months. Generally I give them to her for "breakfast," or as a snack after her regular meal. Just a handful. I prefer the TJ's O's because they seem to be lighter and dissolve a little faster, but the regular kind is fine. I found an organic brand at my chain grocery and that seems to be okay too.

I don't think we started until DD was around a year old because she didn't get her first teeth until she was almost 9 mos. old. We did the Gerber puffs for a long time as DD really liked those, like probably 2/1/2. We did either Joe's O's or regular Cheerios. We've never done Honey Nut Cheerios and DD is 4.

We started with Cheerios broken in half or smaller at around 10 months.

Be careful of the whole grain cheerios, they are coated in sugar. I don't know why they do that.

DS is 10 months, was a little slow at grasping the finger food thing at first.. he played with the puffs at 8 months.. Anyway, He finally got it at 9 months, and eats puffs, mum mums, teething biscuits, whole regular cherrios, little pieces of carrots, rice, peas and corn, and small pieces of chicken & turkey. He has had frozen waffle too and is trying to eat tortilla chips.

We started giving DS Cheerios a little before 8 months, and he's been fine. However, he got his first 2 teeth @ 6 mos and has been very good at finger food. My test is, can i eat/gum it down without using my teeth. You can do that with Cheerios. Obviously we are with him and watch for choking. He also likes the Happy Baby puffs (which taste like cardboard IMO), but we probably won't buy those again b/c they are more $$.

Confession: Cheerios have been my go-to cry-stopper since. I don't leave the house w/o a bag full just in case.
