Default How would you spell.....

There are two names I really like so far for future DD............but I'm unsure how to spell the names (the given name and nickname)

Here are the two names:

Caitlin and call her Catie (???) or Caitie (some version of Katie)......

Maddelin and call her Maddy (or Maddie).....???

in my head I really like the names, but I haven't figured out how I like the names on paper............

I have an acquaintance who goes by Cait and I believe her full name is Caitlin. I must say, the spelling of Cait has always seemed odd to me, although in sound, Cait totally suits her and Kate might not. Cadie is also an idea; there used to be someone on BBB whose DD was named that, not short for anything. Cadence is a bit of a popular name on the internet (never met one IRL, but see it on other message boards) and Cadie could be nickname for that.

There's always changing the spelling to Kaitlin, Katelyn, etc. and then having a more traditional spelling for Kate or Katie.

Katelyn and Madelyn/Madeline.

I like Madelyn, and think that Maddy seems appropriate (since the Y is in the long version. I know it's out there a lot, but to me, Madeline always seems like it should be pronounced with a long I.

My sister is Katherine/Kate, so I'm having a hard time with it starting with a "C". I'm no help there. Sorry.

do you want madelyn pronounced with a short 'i' or madeline pronounced with a long 'i'?

I knew a Caitlin in high school who went by Cait. I think I would make it Caity or Caitey.

I have never seen Maddelin, so it likely would be unique. I prefer "traditional" spellings (as one who could never find my name on mugs and bike licenses and such), so I would use Madeline. Madelyn would be my second choice. Maddy would be my preferred nickname for either (rather than Maddie, though that is fine too).

Oh, I forgot I have a friend who spells it Madeleine, but she is German (and it is a French name). But I like that spelling too.

I like Madeline or Madilyn....and Maddy!
I also really like Caitlin. Caitie is nice and Cait is unusal, but not too much IMO. Nice for an adult (Cait).

I always called her MA-de-lyn (short A at the beginning). I don't know how she pronounces it in Germany. In French I think it would be mah-de-LAYN, but she is not French, just her name is. (Actually, her DH and 2 DDs also have French names. Her DS has an Irish name.)
