I meant to post this a few days ago after reading the Kate/Katie thread. The name I loved, but in the end didn't use is Gabriela. I
that name. I HATE the nickname "Gabby", if it's possible to hate a name. (and please no one take offense if you or DD are nicknamed this!) Something about it screams "brat" to me. I figured there was no way to avoid that nickname, and I would cringe if my DD decided she liked Gabby better, ugh.Are there any of you who loved a name, but decided not to use it because you don't like the nickname?

I gave my second child the name Charles with intention of only using the nickname Charlie -- never, ever, ever Chuck. I HATE the name Chuck, for personal reasons. So far only a few adults have tried to throw Chuck at him, and they got the hairy eyeball from me immediately.
I am also not a fan of "Benji," but I gave my third son the name Benjamin anyway. Again, a few adults have tried to foist the nickname on him, but I am a force to be reckoned with when it comes to what I consider bad nicknames. ![]() I don't think I actually nixed any names because of nicknames though.

Before Isabella became overwhelmingly popular, I loved that name. However, Izzie is a total no go for me. So it was off the list.
I also LOVED Barrett for a boy, and though about naming DS that, but the thought of Barry was enough to drive me from it. (Also Garrett) No offense to anyone with these names, just not my style!

As it turns out, despite all her efforts, he now goes by Benji. He said it was easier and it doesn't bother him. We still all cringe when his friends and even his wife refer to him as Benji!

I gave up on Miranda because of Randi.

) and also by the nickname "Ben-Ben." Even the little girls at preschool call him Ben-Ben. I might have scarred him for life. No Chief Justice Ben-Ben happening.

DH vetoed Amelia from my list due to the possible nickname of Amy. . . nothing wrong with Amy, just a person he'd rather not remember has that name.
I vetoed Helena from DH's list when he said he'd call her Hellie. I'm pretty sure there were others, but they were considered so briefly that I'm not remembering them right now.

DH would not go for Emily b/c he felt like kids would call her enima. I refused Lauren as a first name b/c I dislike Laurie or Lori (no offense to anyone, the name just gives me a bad feeling).

Lots, because our last name has an "Eeee" sound at the end. A lot of nick names have an "eeeee" ending as well and I don't like them together personally.
