DD just turned 1 last week. She is 19lbs 11oz and 29 3/4 in (just had her dr. appt yesterday
) She is currently riding in a Marathon in DHs car and still in her Keyfit in my car. Most of her height must be legs because she is still on the middle harness height on the keyfit and lowest on the marathon. I need to find a new seat for my car. I am currently driving a small 2 door car. I was able to get a good install with the Marathon in the center seat, but there was no way I could get her easily in and out of the seat. I will be getting a new (bigger) car in the next couple of months. My new car will most likely be used as our primary car, so she would only ride in DHs car in an emergency. Should I get a cheapie seat just to get us through the next couple of months until the marathon can be moved to my car or should I get another "good" seat with the intention to pass it down to another baby. Is there any seat that would be easy to get her in and out of with a 2 door car? Thanks!! |

How far is her head from the top of the KeyFit shell?
If she has at least an inch of hard shell above her head, you can continue to use it until she gets to that height or goes over the weight limit (22 or 30 lbs depending on the model). If she is too big, I would look at something inexpensive to use until you get a bigger car so that you don't spend a bunch on a nicer small seat just to have to buy a bigger one to keep her rear-facing until 2 or harnessed until 4-5.

I'll have to check when she gets up. I know she has at least an inch, but I don't think she has much more (maybe 2 inches). Weight wise I think it will take her at least another 2 months to get to the 22lb limit. I think the timing will be really close between her out growing this seat and me getting the new car, but I'll feel more comfortable moving her to a convertible seat sooner just in case she has a bug growth spurt.
