Default When did your "baby" move to a big kid bed from the crib?

Well, we've made the decision to move our daughter to a bigger room and maintain the other room for the baby. We think it will be nice to do something special for daughter #1. My question is this, when did you move your little one from a crib to a bed? Our daughter will be 21 months old when daughter #2 arrives. I don't think she'll be ready for a bed then (mostly because she sleeps so darn well in the crib) but want to plan around it a bit. We are buying her first set of "big girl" bedding to help with choosing a paint color that will work so as to avoid repainting. I am of course excited because I LOVE THIS STUFF! I was a little reluctant at first, but now I am just so excited to be doing something special for both of my little girls!

We moved M when he was 3. Before that he had the conversion kit on the crib. TT is 23 months now and there is no way he is ready for a big kid bed but every child is different.

our kids are 25 months appart and we got a second crib, DS was in his until 3. DD was out of her crib at right past 2 though (we had a convertable crib so we've just converted it).

I'm of the opinion that if they are doing well in a crib and they don't show any interest in climbing out of the crib, you should leave well enough alone.
DD will be nearly 2.5 when the new one arrives and if she is still in the crib when the new baby outgrows the bassinet then we will borrow a crib from someone.
DD is a terrible sleeper and does not deal with changes in her sleep environment well at all. She is nearly 2 and is no where near ready for a toddler bed.

I move my kids when they are ready. I let them initiate the move. DD1 was almost 3, DD2 was almost 2, DS is 20 months & showing no signs of wanting to move.

We moved DD (23 mos) into her new, big girl room and big girl bed this past Tuesday. She has a new baby sister on the way next month and we wanted to give her time to get used to a new room without feeling like the baby pushed her out. She's had several trial runs in other big girl beds (vacations and Nana's house) and we've talked about it for months. We bought the different pieces for it over the past several months and did a lot of oohing and ahhhing over each one as it came in. (DH has never been so enthusiastic about floral sheets and comfortors in his life!) She's always loved her crib, but doesn't seem to be missing it and hasn't asked to sleep in it. Probably could have moved her in a few months ago without any problems, but the room needed to be cleaned out.

We moved our DD to her big girl bed around 22 months. It was surprisingly easy. We started her out at about 20 months on the air mattress next to her bed. Then we transitioned to naps in the big bed and then moved to all night over the course of a few weeks. The transition was a little long because I was trying to figure out what to use to keep her from falling out. We ended up going with the snug tuck pillows and love them.

Sounds like we'll just make the room as comfortable as possible for the time being as it will likely be a while before she is ready for a bed. We are 100% fine with that as we've gotten a 2nd crib for daughter #2. I just wanted to figure out in my head how comfortable to make it with the crib...I wouldn't have worried about it so much if it would likely have been a few months but it if will likely be at least a year, then I'll make it as pulled together as possible for now.

25 months -- he climbed out of the crib twice in a row and we realized it was time to move on. He's been fabulous in the bed. We used a pool noodle under the sheets for 9 months to help him not fall off. Right now, most nights he chooses to sleep on the floor. But he doesn't fall off the bed even when on it.

At this point I fully expect DS to be out of his crib before DD is out of hers....We bought 2 cribs and don't regret it for a second. DD is still completely content in her crib and she will be 3 on Monday!
