Default NYC stroller advice

Expecting our first and trying to figure out which stroller would be best - any advice would be much appreciated.

We live on the 4th floor of a walk-up, so a light stroller is a must (no option for first floor storage).

Daycare is just over 1 mile away and we'll be traveling there daily on foot, so it will need to be durable.

It would be great if we could use it basically from birth through toddlerhood.

We'd like to keep the price under $400.

So far, the best contender seems to be the BJCM (although after 3 flights even it is a bit heavy), but we recently saw the Peg Perego Vela which is lighter but there seems to be less written about it in general so we're not sure how durable it would be.

Thank you for your help!

I would also consider the Maclaren Techno XT and a baby carrier like the Beco Butterfly II. That way you also have the option of carrying your baby while going up/down stairs because even if a stroller is lightweight it can still get heavy to carry when your LO and other supplies are in it. We have a Mac Triumph that we use on PT and I always keep my carrier in it (or any stroller just in case).

I just posted a review in several places. You can Google it.

I like this option best. Mac Techno and baby carrier.

You could also look at Maclaren's Ryder model. It has a full recline like the XT, but it is a bit lighter.

I don't think the Vela will work from birth unless you use it with a car seat in the beginning.

If it were me I would also look at the Bumbleride Flite. It's an umbrella stroller that can take a carry cot. That would give you the option of baby facing you for at least the first few months while keeping the weight down.
