Default Please STOP asking me...

...if DD2 is sleeping through the night yet!!

Why is it that EVERYONE feels the need to ask a mom of a baby this question in every conversation?!!

The answer is NO... she is not. She's only 4 months old, she's exclusively breastfed, she's tiny (3rd percentile), and she still eats every 2-3 hours around the clock. Please stop asking!!!

Oh, and it makes me feel SO much better to hear that your Aunt Molly's cousin's nephew's friend had a baby who slept through at 2 weeks old!!

And yes, I'm very tired, thanks for asking!!!

I feel for you <3 I used to get it too. THEN the suggestions start rolling in. I think Jack was over a year old before he slept more than 6hr in a row.

sorry, mama. i just saw a FB friend who is a new mom bitch about her newborn "waking up" at 5am. i think the baby is like 5 weeks old. i actually commented on her status and said she might consider herself lucky the baby sleeps *until* 5am! where do people get this idea that babies should immediately sleep in the same patterns we do??? and that something is wrong if they don't? ridiculous.

This is one of those questions people should never ask new moms. I think people ask it just so they can offer suggestions. I just started saying "yes" so that I could skip past all of the suggestions of things I wasn't going to do anyway. And now I'm saying "yes" that she is walking, even though she isn't quite doing so on her own yet, because people have lots of suggestions about that too!

I started doing that too.

Or just acting super confident when I'd admit no. People tend to back off if you say that no a certain way. Like when no one dare suggest that I couldn't have ds1 without pain meds- I had said with such authority and conviction (and maybe a tad of delusion in their opinion) that they never second guessed me.

I think it's just a generic topic to bring up and they do it either to commiserate with you (aka share their horror stories) or offer "helpful" suggestions.

I always answered "she's sleeps like a baby!" and let them wonder. What a crazy question, really, and why do they care?

if it makes you feel better, they have their $0.02 worth to put in when you get really lucky and baby DOES sttn at 5w....

dd1 didnt sttn till she was 2. seriously. she did ONCE. I thought she was dead when I woke up at 5am engorgorged beyond belief.

G-d must have had pity on me b/c dd2 is a decent sleeper at night. 9p-5/6 am. the flip side is no naps of course, but you cant have everything.

I feel your pain, really. try to get some daytime naps in at least so you're getting more sleep even if its broken up which is the worst of the worst. **hug**

I feel your pain! My personal fave is "Is he a good baby?" which is just really "does he sleep through the night yet?" in disguise. How many "bad" babies do you know? Mine isn't robbing liquor stores or anything so I am going to say he is a "good" baby but no he doesn't sleep through the night.

Phooey on them!
