Default Once a Week/Month cooking

Someone mentioned they do this and I'm interested on how you go about it.

i bought the book OAMC family favorites and follow it exactly. Did it last night, got a freezer full. Happy momma

I order the groceries online, which saves a TON of hassle. The next time you do the same round of meals, the shopping list is already saved!

I got this book at Sam's Club.

http://www.amazon.com/Once-Month-Coo...ref=pd_sim_b_2

The book was helpful because it listed recipies and ingredient lists for two weeks of meals or one month of meals. I did just two weeks of meals and split them because its just me and DH (DS doesn't put a dent in our serving sizes yet). I recommend planning it out, do grocery shopping the day before (I shopped on Friday night), and do all your cooking in one day (I did mine on a Saturday and had DH take care of DS).

There are also a bunch of online resources if you google "once a month cooking" or "oamc." Its awesome to have a freezer full of meals ready to go. Good luck!

Yep, same book. I gather items from my cabinets, complete the shopping list online, get some bulk stuff at sam's the day or two before. I like to do it during the week b/c I don't want it to take up my weekend. Sometimes, I will start after lunch and hire a sitter to watch the DC until DH gets home. After the DC go to bed, he has to help. The sitter will help chop or label if the DC are all napping.

Reusing the huge pot to cook so many things is key. You don't have to wash everything a hundred times in between entrees. I've done cycle A, B, and C (2x). They all look fun and tasty.

this is so interesting. i had never heard of this, but now that i think of it, this is genius!! i will definitely get this book. good points about being able to reuse pots/pans and not have to wash everything in between...seriously a main gripe about cooking is having to wash/clean up every time!

I got our book at Sam's Club on a whim one day. The price was about the same as the Amazon price. You can prob. find a Prime FS trial offer if you don't have it.

Whatever book you choose, take a minute to look at the recipes. They may or may not suit the taste of your family.

So what type of meals are these? I looked into it once before but the book people told me about did not have a lot of meals we cared to eat.

Can you substitute? I do like this book, but I know some things will not go over great. How do you substitute?
