Default What does your DS wear to (public) school?

DS1 will be starting Kindergarten comes September. I usually buy ahead and so he's got a lot of stuff ready for the fall. Then of course DH asks me what will DS be wearing to school and I said a lot of what he already wears now...short/long sleeved Ts, pants and jeans...a few sweaters/sweatshirts/fleece. So I asked DH what did you want him to wear...and he mentions how he used to wear more rugbys, polos, slightly more sporty/formal stuff than Ts. Figures DH goes and makes me feel like I didn't prepare right for DS but that's what we have and I probably will use it since I can't return the stuff...and honestly I don't really see anything wrong with what I have prepped. But I was curious what others have for their DS for school.

In k my ds1 lived in the Gap playtime favorites stuff- knit pants and t-shirts. No collared shirts unless there were pictures. Comfort was key for us! Oh, and the ability to get messy!

Khakis and t-shirts for k last year and that's what I'm planning for 1st this year too, plus some jeans. The only times he wore a collared shirt were picture days and holiday performances, or a couple of times when he wanted to or I was behind on laundry. Maybe ten times all year? And those were all polos.

Kids here are casual all the way. Tshirts, track pants, jeans, sweatshirts.

We do collared shirts for picture days.

Also keep in mind for boys especially the need to use the bathroom independently. Don't send your kid in jeans and khakis if he can't button and zip his pants by himself. DS1 broke his arm last fall & had flexibility issues with it all year so he wore elastic waisted pants to school every day so he could use the bathroom by himself.

I tend to dress my boys (6 &8) more formally than most. Collared shirts mostly unless it is a gym day or a specific color/theme day. A combination of both jeans and khakis (sp?) and track pants (again, if it is gym day). They do not wear t-shirts with slogans at all to school. They can wear a Baseball/Football/Hockey jersey every once in a while.

I think your wardrobe choice is fine. My son usually wears shorts / t-shirts. An occasional polo but mostly t-s. In the winter, sometimes he will wear a nice sweater with khakis.

Mine is in private school, but not one with uniforms. Their dress code actually requests comfortable easy clothes. They must wear tennis shoes unless they need boots in the winter.

So, his school wardrobe is mostly daily tea, Boden flannel pants and t-shirts, and other easy loose fitting pants and tshirts. They have PE almost every day and they really need to be dressed for that.

My tendency would be to dress him more formally, khakis, polos, sweaters, but it doesn't make sense. I dress him in jeans and khakis, collared shirts, sweaters more on the weekends. I went to school with uniforms and we changed for PE but the boys school doesn't do that. Plus it's Montessori and they are on the floor working rather than sitting in desks, so comfortable is better.

My DS and all the boys in our class wear what you have for your son. I personally don't like big logos or character items, so I stay away from those. I'm not a fan of sweatpants either - pull on pants are fine, fleece pants are fine, but there's something about sweatpants I don't like for school. DS prefers jeans over khakis or other pants, so that is what he mostly wears.
