Default Newborn Stroller?

Question regarding newborns and strollers. Besides attaching a car seat to a stroller are there any other ways to safely transport your newborn in a stroller? It looks like a few of the strollers have a detachable bassinet that can be used on the stroller. Also, a few of the strollers mention that they recline, does that mean you could safely lay your newborn flat if it were reclined? Thanks for all your help.

Yes, the bassinet is a good option. It all depends on what kind of stroller you're looking for. With most rear facing strollers (like bugaboo and uppa baby vista) the entire seat can be tilted back. Otherwise a stroller will have to have to recline completly flat. While some strollers say they recline, not all recline flat enough for a newborn. I believe a baby has to be about 6 months old to ride in a non-reclined stroller.

There is a lot of controvery about baby's spending too much time in car seats, so it's good that you're researching non-carseat stroller options. But also, if you're going to be spending a lot of time getting in and out of a car, being able to snap the car seat in and out for quick trips is a life saver!! Especially if you don't want to wake up a sleeping baby.

It is preferable to use a bassinet or a stroller with full recline for a newborn.

It's helpful to use some sort of a body snuzzler in a stroller. I used summer infant one inside the bassinet and I also used it inside the Bee Plus stroller I have when he was 3 months old. Lots of strollers have almost full recline and it should be suitable for a 2 month old or at least 3 month old baby especially with the snuzzler.

For younger babies many stroller manufacturers offer carrycots, which can be put on top of the fully reclined seat for extra security or can attach directly to the frame (bassinets). You don't necessarily need to commit to a full featured reversible stroller that comes with the bassinet like Vista or Bugaboo. I think Phil&Teds offer carrycots as well as Bumbleride for their strollers. Some stroller independent bassinets can be quite pricey though.

Then there are also strollers with 180 degree reclining seats and with the footrests that go up and can create sort of an enclosed bassinet. These should be safe for newborns. I would still use a snuzzler with those.

if you have a Bee, you can also use the Nest for newborns.
