Default When did you take your at home pregnacy test?

Poll coming...

I'm to frugal to take one before a missed period but I'm wondering if I can wait much longer. I'm really curious. With my first two pregnancies I waited a good week after my missed period. But back then I was a regular 28 days cycle. Since Matthew I've been on a 35 day cycle not fun when your ttc. Actually second to last to last was on 30 days. Tomorrow will be 30 days, next Tuesday will be 35 days. sigh.. debate debate...

Anywho what about you? When do you take your first pregnancy test normaly?

I voted other because:

1) I was about 10 days late when I took it, so the "couple of days after" option didn't seem the right one. I'm very irregular and we weren't actively TTC yet, I'd been traveling, etc.

2) I use FAM, and the device I use for measuring basal temperature (www.ladycomUSA.com) can detect a pregnancy. I got a HPT the day it marked "confirmed pregnancy".

Then I went to see my OB and said "I'm here because I think I may be pregnant, the ladycomp and the HPT came out positive" and he laughed and said "and you need further confirmation?" I was still a bit in shock

With ds2 my periods were weird when I was TTC. I was like clockwork till I got my IUD out then I missed a month. My periods had been weird prior to my pg with ds2 so I thought I was getting off track again. I did test that month- nothing. So, the next cycle was good but then I didn't have a pd the next month. I wasn't going to bother testing. Prior to ds1's birth I only had 4 cycles/ year so I thought that was happening. But, I finally tested after being 2 weeks late because other symptoms showed up.

We were TTC using a CB digital fertility monitor, temping etc etc. I have PCOS so lots of time and effort here and I took a zillion tests, even after I got the BFP (serioulsy I have like 8 positive tests that I saved until a few months after DS was born, gross I know but it was a big emotional thing).
I took the first a few days early and it was negative, took another 2 or so days before I was due and got the faint positive, and so on...

i voted a few days after but i should have voted other bc i have 2 diff answers since it was different with each pregnancy.

with DS, i took it 5 days before my period was due. i was *that* sure. i had a lot of other signs (nausea, sore boobs, etc) and i knew something was up. i got a faint positive.

with this next baby, my period was 5 days or so late before i tested. i couldn't tell as easily with this one bc i was still nursing and so my boobs weren't back to "normal". plus i was super distracted taking care of DS. i got a strong positive when i tested.

I was doing the ovalation kits. The second month I took the test a week after I was ovulating, and got a faint positive I almost missed, (DH was fishing them out of the trash to doublecheck) then took a digital that night that was positive.

I voted "other" because I have done all of the above!

I would hate to know how much I've spent in pregnancy tests due to trouble conceiving and irregular and non-existent periods.

With DD#1, I tested at 12 days post-ovulation, or two days before my period was due. Got a positive.

With Ds#2, tested when period was due, got a negative, tested a couple days later, just to be sure, and got a positive.

Good luck!

With all 3 kids, I just *knew* I was pregnant a solid week before my period was due. I couldn't hold out long enough to test after I was late. I used the one that can tell you 5 days before your period is supposed to start.

Each time I had hot flashes, my breasts were so sore I could hardly stand to wear a bra, I was tired, and w/two of them nauseous already--before I was ever "late."

I've always tested two days after my period was due, and I've never had a negative pregnancy test.

With my first pregnancy, we'd been trying for nearly two years and I'd been taking my temperature every morning for months. DH and I were going to visit friends in Michigan for the weekend and I had such a strong feeling that I was pregnant, that I packed a couple of tests in my bag. When AF didn't arrive on the 28th or 29th day I decided it was time to break out the test and pee on a stick. Sure enough, BFP. This pregnancy ended in miscarriage at seven weeks, but two months later, AF didn't show and my temps continues to rise. Sure enough another BFP and a pregnancy that ended with DS1.

With my third pregnancy, I was sure I was not pregnant. Again we were charting my temps and on day 28, my temperature dipped. Went out with friends that night and drank a fair amount of sangria. The next morning, my temperature shot up again. Ooops. Bought a test that afternoon and peed on it the following morning. Immediately regretted the sangria. DS2 arrived the following summer.

Two years later, DH and I were not trying to get pregnant. We had been traveling over the summer and on our road trip home I developed a horrible toothache and was certain I'd need a root canal when we got home. Took a few vicodin and percocet to survive the ride home. Made an appointment with my dentist as soon as I got home. As we were scheduling the appointment he asked if there was a chance I might me pregnant. It occurred to me my period was due the day before. Bought another HPT and sure enough, tested positive. The endodontist did a partial root canal...enough to kill the nerve and stop the pain, and told me to come back after the baby was born to complete the work. A week later, AF arrived.

After this miscarriage/chemical pregnancy I realized I really did want one more child, so we decided to start trying. After waiting one cycle DH had a month with a lot of travel. He was gone most of the month, including those days around the middle of my cycle. As that second post-MC cycle drew to a close I figured I'd start taking my temperatures to get back into the routine. Stuck a thermometer in my mouth on day 27, then day 28, on day 29 my temperature still hadn't dropped and on day 30 I got the BFP that resulted in DS3. There was no doubt about when he was conceived since we'd only done the deed once that month.
