Default I have NO idea what to get DD for her 1st bday

I feel like it should be a very special gift...but I know she probably won't remember it. I'm absolutely clueless here. We did just purchase the PBK giant floor pillow for her for when we finish our basement this winter, but I don't know if that should be "the" gift. What did you get your DC for his/her 1st bday?

I don't remember what we got my son. I think it was a playhouse, but that might have been his second birthday.

We got my daughter the Itty Bitty doll from American Girl dolls.

She loved it...when she was about 2 1/2. Now at almost 5, it's her favorite baby doll. But I probably could have waited a few years on it!

it was a large contribution to her 529 account, but her birthday was close to the holidays and there were toys that were still in boxes that have not been opened yet.

We got DD1 bath toys. She is now 4/1/2 and still plays with them today.

Are you trying to find something meaningful that will last for years into adulthood? Or just something special that she'll enjoy at this stage of her life?

For DD2, I bought her the Radio Flyer Walker Wagon during that big Target/aol sale last year (her 1st birthday wasn't until June so it sat in the closet for a while). It was perfect as it was right when she was about to cruise. She absolutely loved it.

But, this isn't something that is going to be treasured forever....

I got her a doll and my siblings bought her the Laugh and Learn Home. She wasn't quite ready for either, but starting using them both within a few months. Now she plays with dolls all.day.long. and the Laugh n Learn home all the time too.

One thing to keep in mind, is that her toy choices will change A LOT over the next year. So if family is asking what you want for her, think ahead too. DD is 22 months and will be getting a kitchen for her second birthday. However, she would have played with it for months already if we had one. Another toy your DD would love in the next few months is the Cozy Coupe. DD plays with hers every day (we keep it indoors).

If your looking for something small that she could appreciate right now, my DD LOVED the Fisher Price piggy bank and cookie jar toys at that age. SHe just loved putting things into something, and taking them out. I you want link, I'd be happy to provide. She played with both of those toys for a looong time.

ETA: Hmmm, I just reread your post and saw that your looking for something very special. If you want something sentimental, she probably wont be to appreciate it right now... What about one of those personalized growth charts? Or how about a personalized book or CD- you know, the kinds that use the childs name?

I'm struggling with a gift option for DD's birthday in two months, also. We have enough toys and clothes and she'll probably get more from family so I hate to buy more just so we have a gift for her.

I think her gift from DH and I will be her birthday party and the new Britax Boulevard 70 that was just delivered!

I can't remember what we gave DD1 (mostly toys I think). Figuring out what to get DD2 is going to be hard since we have all of DD1's stuff.

I'm thinking of a nice piggy bank (DD1 got one from our baby shower, but DD2 doesn't have one yet). I'm also considering some type of keepsake box. I still have the one I was given during my childhood and it has my baby bracelet, a $2 bill, a few special coins, and the like in it. I've seen some personalized painted ones on etsy.

I think I want something that she will enjoy now AND later. I'm realizing that might not be possible. I'll check out all of the suggestions, thanks.
