Default What to Do? Re: Poor job at salon

Ok, so I went to the nail salon that I usually go to (when/if I go, but I've been getting pedicures there all summer) and had them remove a no-chip gel nail polish and put on a new color last night.

It was late when the lady (very hard to understand Vietnamese lady) finished, almost closing time and I thought the manicure looked kind of rough, but didn't have time to do anything about it, so I paid and left. When I got home and actually inspected it, it looks BAD. Like, I could have painted my own nails and smudged them a lot- kind of bad.

The thing is, this no-chip polish should be rock-hard when I leave. It was last time, but clearly something went wrong. I shouldn't be able to smudge it if it's done properly.

I plan to go back this evening and ask them to fix it (hopefully someone else will do it) and I don't intend to pay again. But if it is someone else, do I still need to tip? I feel like I don't, but then again, I have no idea.

If they fix it for no charge and are really nice/ apologetic about it, I would give a small tip to the girl who fixes it. If they just fix it without being very nice, I wouldn't tip. If they ask you to pay for it, I'd raise a stink and probably not return to that salon.

I would tip the girl who fixes it no matter what. It's not her fault her colleague botched the job. If the person who fixes it is the owner or even manager, I wouldn't tip. They are responsible for their employees (I realize you may have already gone, but just in case!) Good luck, it should be free no matter what.
