Last year DD was small enough that I didn't have to put her winter coat on in the car. I carried her out to the already warm car and put a blanket over her in her buckled car seat. Then used a soft structured carrier to get her into stores and just wrapped my coat around us both.
So.... DD is now 19 months and wanting to walk everywhere. What kind of fleece/jackets/sweaters/etc does everyone put on their kids so they don't have to take them off to buckle them in? I'm in Northern VA, and it doesn't get that cold here. I don't have to worry about major negative temperatures. TIA

A light sweatshirt or sweater is fine. In New England it gets COLD and we take jackets off in the car and put them on backwards after we strap in. Kids are used to it. When it is REALLY cold we will warm up the car first.

My kids have fleece jackets from Lands End or LL Bean that can be worn in the car, but they prefer to take them off. We just get in the car and they wear Snuggies as blankets and maybe another blanket if it's really cold. We put the coats on in the car as best as we can before getting out.

i just got DS the Hanna best ever baby jacket (fleece). He LOVES it and it keeps him warm, yet it's not too bulky to wear in carseat. We're in north TX so it doesn't get super cold here (coldest is usually in the 20s) and it's perfect. ALso my son has some sensory issues with clothes and things on his head, but this jacket doesn't seem to bother him.

I usually get coats that are polar fleece lined, nylon outer, or just fleece, or you could go with a 'wool' pea coat type thing... as long as there's not too much downy puffy stuff to compress, it's fine. Though my dd's just wacky, she strips her jacket off in the van no matter how cold it is... I want to get her one of these klipz blankets...http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...ductId=4345316 or just use plastic clips of some sort on a fluffy blanket or something so it doesn't fall on the floor all the time..I still need to search the garage for a solution, lol.

In the car DD was wearing a fleece, but now we just use a blanket. DS wears a light fleece.

Since I only have the one LO, we climb into the backseat, close the door, and take off his coat and get him in the carseat and then buckle him in. I climb back into the backseat to get him out and put his coat back on when we get where we are going.
