Default Gross alert: how to clean comforter

DS1 just vomited all over our down comforter. The label says dry clean only. Has anyone ever washed a down comforter in a washing machine or should I wait till tomorrow to take it to the dry cleaner?

Blech!

OK to wash if you have a front loader or high efficiency, otherwise take it to the dry cleaners. Oh and you can dry it on low heat - use tennis balls.

Unfortunately, I've washed ours multiple times because of one of the girls or the cat

There are times that we've lost some feathers due to a hole that I didn't know about, and it takes forever to dry, but otherwise, it comes out okay.

Good luck!

Oh no! I agree that you can wash it in a front loader. Actually my mom used to wash ours when we were kids in top loaders...but that was the 80's

Hope your DS1 feels better!

Our housekeeper accidentally washed our down comforter a few weeks ago in our front loader (she didn't know it was dry clean only) and it came out OK, looks and feels the same as it did before. We mostly let it air dry and when it was slightly damp we put it in the dryer on low with a couple of dryer balls.

I do it every few months, for years noew! And I used to do it in the top loader! As long as there are no holes in it, it will be fine. It will take almost 3 dryer cycles to dry, though

I have washed mine in a front load heavy duty commercial washer at the laundromat. I wouldn't risk putting it in your home washer as it could overload it.

I'd take it down to a laundromat then. One with the front loading ones.
