I remember last year some of you had your Elf do fun things (leaving a pile of marshmallows etc, which my kids thought was so funny).
Buddy, our Elf resurfaced last night and I'm trying to think of fun things for him to do to greet the kids some mornings. The hardest part will be to remember to hide him each night. |

Not really that creative but here is what got laughs so far: elf sitting at the laptop "working", sitting on the toilet tank wrapped in toilet paper, and riding in a toy car. They also like it when he shows up in their bedrooms and eats snacks.

Our elf showed up last night for the first time. Last January, I got the set on amazon for around $15, I think. I opened the package up yesterday and read through the book. I got to the last page. It was already filled out! In ink! "This tradition began for the Davis family on December 6, 2009." The elf's hat was torn. I didn't open it when I received it because I knew we wouldn't need it for 11 months. Lesson learned. BTW, the Davis family's Elfy has now been renamed "Fizzy".

We have a little elf that I got from Etsy (the kids named him Elby) but he doesn't really do much.. many nights, he doesn't even get moved. And thank you, thank you, thank you for reminding me to put him out tonight.. I told the kids he would probably show up tonight since we put our tree up today, and I almost forgot.
![]() We do have Solstice fairies visit our house on the Solstice. They draw an ornate chalk door on our fireplace bricks and then cause all sorts of mischief. The one the boys remember best was that they took unopened bags of flour and sugar and made faces on them with pipe cleaners and pom poms, then put them in the boys' spots on the couch. We also made a pyramid of soda cans, put all the dining room chairs on top of the table, messed up our advent calendar, made weird scenes with their toys, unraveled a roll of toilet paper on the floor.. um.. a bunch of other stuff, too, but I forget what. The kids get a huge kick out of seeing what trouble the Solstice fairies get into.. and then the fairies leave a little something, usually for the altar (last year it was some little wooden animals and a gnome version of each of us.. have to make one for Niall this year).

Tonight was our first night with our elf "Simon". I'll be watching to see what everyone does with their elves.

Crim (named by DD) has been working hard for about two weeks already and I am glad to get some new ideas here!
I think his best spot yet was up in the ceiling fan. DS found him first that day. I feel like I am running out of spots because unless we put him up high, DD will not be able to stop herself from touching him. I'm not really sure if our DC would notice any messes left by Crim, since we have a lot of messy spots around the house already.

Our elves have not shown up yet this year. Probably alot closer to Christmas before they arrive. In previous years Elvin and Greggles have cleaned the kitchen, taken a ride on the ceiling fan in mom's sneakers, had a camp out, decorated the tree with candycanes and underwear (different nights), made crafts, built block towers, crashed DS' ride on toy, printed out coloring pages, eaten all the cereal so we had to go out for breakfast, had a snowball (cottonball) fight, played cards, made popcorn and watched a christmas movie, got caught up in wrapping paper, made paper snowflakes, and set up the geotrax around the tree for a ride. Not sure if they will be alone this year or if they will bring thier baby brother (TM stopped carrying Annaleigh elves so I need to find a new source).

For those of you that do it, do you also do an advent calendar? I think the EOAS idea is so cute but I'm wondering if it is too much to remember to do the elf and the advent calendar as well.
